Is this angry sparrows?

I've read quite a few threads to see if this was my problem, and I'm thinking it is, but I just wanted to confirm it with the great minds of JF before I go out spending money to fix it.

It's a repetitive metallic scraping noise from the front of the jeep. It seems to be worse when it's cold out, and it doesn't appear until I'm going about 30 or so.
The noise doesn't get any louder or faster no matter how fast the Jeep is going, just that it appears and disappears around 30 mph. It also seems to go away after awhile.

Is angry sparrows the problem?

A good way to diagnose angry sparrows is to disconnect the front driveshaft and tie it up so it doesn't hang down. If you don't get the squeaking noise when you drive it like that, then that is your problem.

Please forgive me, but I am new to all of this. How do I remove the front drive shaft?

You don't want to remove it completely. You just want to disconnect it from the front axle. I think there are 4 small bolts that secure it. Remove those, tie the front driveshaft up so that it won't drag when you drive it and listen for the squeaking.

Four 8mm bolts (2 for each u-joint strap) are all that need to be removed. Once you get the driveshaft free from the front diff, tape up the u-joint caps so they don't fall off while driving and cause you to replace a good u-joint. And be careful not to lose any needle bearings if you do manage to take a cap off on accident.

I have had the caps pop off before. Not a whole lot of fun getting everything back together. I had the angry sparrows and thats how I diagnosed it. Its tricky to get the shaft back in by yourself but not impossible. Once its out just take it to a driveshaft shop
