Angled spare tire carrier..

im finally putting a 33' spare tire on the jeep. i was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of one of those angled spare tire carriers i see around on the street. is this a mod you can make on the stock carrier or a completely different unit?

A 33 should not be placed on the stock spare tire carrier as it will damage you tailgate. I am not sure of the brand for an angled carrier.

Correct, it should not be placed on the tailgate at all. An angled carrier is likely a swing away tire carrier, this is based off the bumper which is mounted on the frame, not the relitively fragile tail gate.

You likely have, it is possible, but later most those members post that their tailgate is damaged and very difficult to open and close. Then they need to replace the hinges and/or tailgate.

The rock hard 4x4 parts tire carrier is lightly angled.

How does the Rock Hard work? Does it make getting into the rear compartment tough? Got 33X10.5s being put on so was thinking of carrying them on stock carrier until I get new bumper. The Rock Hard is the one they recommend. Thanks.

The rock hard works great. All you have to do is lift a lever to open it and then it slams shut just like a car door. I have my CB antenna mounted to the rock hard (the mount is included) and plan on getting the rack to carry a bit more stuff when camping.

Most people say you can carry a 33x10.50 on the stock but I didn't want to risk damage to the tailgate hinges so I went without a spare for a month or so until I could get the rock hard.

you can also get a spare tire adapter, much cheaper than a swing away tire carrier.

And almost certain to cause damage to the tailgate with an oversized spare.

how much more would a 33 weight than a 31? 20lbs? i mean i could understand if it was 60 70 lbs. The tailgates are rated to hold more than the spare tire. he's talking 33's not 37's
