Alternator Swaps

OK. Here's the problem. I've got lights, horns, and a winch. Lots o' amperage is required to run all this garbage. Now...I have a 99' with a dizzy. I'm looking for a good junkyard upgrade alternator. Now the catch.
I picked one up today out of a 98 Durango. By rights it should be a direct bolt on. Of course it's not. I have the little plastic clip two wire setup. The one I just picked up is a two wire, but you have to bolt the thing on in three places.
I guess what I'm trying to get at is what alt can I use for my application? Any info please.

2002 Dodge Durango 5.9L V8 160Amp alternator. It is supposed to be a direct bolt in. I just got mine last week but haven't had a chance to put it in yet.

Check the picture of the back of the alternator to make sure it will work.

I've posted a few lists of potential donors for 136A & 160A ND units - if it's not here, check on CherokeeForum, CherokeeTalk, or NAXJA (same moniker.)

@SnatchBlock - when you do install your 160A unit, could you please provide pictures and notes? I've continued to list it as "theoretically possible," but I've not had anyone confirm yet, so I can't ever manage to swear to it being doable...

Before I purchased mine, I confirmed it with someone that has done it. He said it has been working fine over the past two years. I will snap some pics to compare when I put it in, but I won't be able to get to it for a few weeks.

Not to hijack, but would these upgrades also work for the 2.4l as well?

I would think you could do it with a 4 banger. Definatley bump up your batt/alt cable though. Just remember to check that your connectors match up. Thats where I went wrong.

yeah, definitely upgrade your wiring.

I put a 136 amp from a 98 grand cher w/ a 5.2L as a direct bolt on. I had to swap the pulley and the piece of plastic, but its direct. I upgraded my wiring to 6 ga...

OK.Just found a alt from a 98 Dakota with a 5.2. All connectors are the same and a little research reveals it to be a 136 amp. I'm going to swap it in after this damn rain storm. Wish me luck.

My 160 amp alt is for a '98 Durango and works for either V8 for that year. Mine is an '03. Direct plug-n-play.
