It makes a difference what year TJ as to what year or model Dodge or Jeep GC is a match . They changed over the years . I think on my 99 I used one from a 98 Dodge Ram w/136 amp alt years back. Their is plenty already written about the swaps , Search tool is your friend.

I have posted a list of potential donors for 117A, 136A, and 160A units - the 117A should fit right in, the larger units will require grinding. Other pitfalls are noted, and the Cham/LSTR numbers given should be usable at any parts house.

If you are replacing your alternator with a higher-output unit, and expect to actually USE that capacity, consider a wiring upgrade mandatory.

I have 4 130w lights plus factory fogs and just headlights and fogs alone make my voltage dip bad. And I supposedly have a 117a alternator. I'll be taking it to test it tomorrow, just to make sure.

I have an 04 TJ and the alternator of the same year for the darango works great. There is an extra mounting hole that sticks out a bit that I have read you may need to grind off, but I didn't and it fits fine.

You are absolutely right and in his case we don't know if he has 4.0 or 2.4 which I assume would make a difference.

I was just trying to be a smartass... HAPPY FOURTH!
