Now, let's see what kind of a trick it will be to get the broken piece out!

A little gorilla glue and a clamp fixed my broken knob.

Count me amongst the thankful. Saved $ I need elsewhere. What would this have cost me to fix at a repair shop or the stealership.

Same here, about a inch long split so I cut it off and slipped the hose back onto the connector and no it blows like a champ. I can't believe I've gone through two burning summers and two freezing winter with insufficient air because of that, but this was definitely a better solution than paying a mechanic $90 to do the same thing....

After reading 6 pages, I too have a broken knob on the selector. Thanks JF.com for the simple fix! Now I need to fix the blower motor and I'll be ready for the winter.

On Friday the a/c heat would only run on Defrost. I found this thread on Friday night. Saturday morning it took me about 5 minutes to find the loose hose plug it back in and have the unit working again. Thanks to this site and people here.

The Vacuum line is on the driver side on the 2002 that I fixed. In the center on the block just below the head. Its a tiny line the size of a small straw. It had just popped out and was laying there.

Ok, got my broken off piece out of the housing for the panel vents with a drywall screw... Im trying to get a new part from the stealership but they're saying they only list the whole heater housing with the part number I gave them off the back of the broken lever and its like $283! WTF? Dealer guys, what part number/ part name do I need?

SO i was wondering if anyone had a picture of where the vacuum line behind the battery plugged in. I know that is my problem because it has a big crack in it. I just don't know where it plugs back into? Can anyone tell me where. I have a 98 Jeep Wrangler.

If I remember correctly, the "nipple" for the vacuum line points downward. You can see it from underneath the Jeep on the passenger side below the battery tray. You do not have to remove the battery and battery tray, just crawl under there and take a look up at it. My rubber elbow on the vacuum line was cracked causing it to slip off the nipple and hang. I simply cut the elbow down (about 1/2 inch off),used a little silicone on the base of the nipple and slid the rubber connector back on. Be careful since you don't want to cut the rubber elbow more than you have to and you also do not want to use too much silicone and clog the line. I recommend just a little bit, and apply it to the nipple about 3/4 of the way down towards the base. The silicone is just for added security, it isnt needed to form an airtight seal. Good luck, let me know if that works. if you need me to, I can take some pictures of mine.

If you could send me a picture that would be much appreciated. Because looking at the service manual it seems as if it goes to the vacuum resevroir which is inside the fender under the battery. Is that the case? I tried that last night and it didn't seem to want to fit onto it so I am kind of lost as to where to put it. A pic would be great.
Thanks, -Brett |

I will try to take a picture tonight when I get home. It is "in the fender" and "under the battery tray" but you can see it if you look up from the axle area back and up towards the battery. You should be able to see the canister. I saw the vacuum line hanging immediately when I looked up there.

So is it like the square box looking thing and it just goes on the nipple basically in the middle of it pointing towards the engine?
