Finally found my leak as well, same place, at the vacuum accumlator under the battery tray. Line was split about 3/4" at the end... snipped it shorter and plugged it back in... bingo, fully functional HVAC again!

A/C Defrost problem... 06 Rubicon

I LOVE this board! I usually can't open a pickel jar without breaking something... and I found the vacuum hose disconnected and my A/C blows through my vents again!

You guys are all invited to Effingham, Il. "F-N-HAMJEEPCLUB.com"

Send me an email if you are ever in the area. I'll take you out to our club ground for a little wheeln.

OMG!!! I love this forum!!!

I woke up today and went for a ride in the 90 degree Florida sun and as I reached down to turn the A/C on.... oh, oh!! The freakin' A/C wasn't blowing air from anywhere other than the defrost vents!!

So, after about 5 minutes of searching on JF, I come across this thread. And, VOILA!!! That little hose was disconnected!!! All I did was reconnect the hose (with a tie-wrap) and it was fixed.

Did I say, I LOVE THIS FORUM!!!

Thank You, scotch740!! You're the best!!

so to sort of revive this thread, Im sort of having the same issue. Except my vents all work. But, I still have hesitation and stalling and the cruise control doesnt work. And when I try to set the cc while in park, the Jeep will stall and if I hold it down long enough, it will die. I have checked all the connectors and hoses for leaks. I sprayed the lines and connectors with soap water and nothing.

its a 04 LJ.

Thoughts?

Thanks for the link, this was the problem. The vacum hose at the frme was split about a half inch, I cut it above the split, plugged it in and it worked, now to get a new vacum line.

My issue is that the selector doesn't even feel like it's engaging anything... When turned from one stop to another there is the 'suggestion' of detents that it is clicking through but I don't feel like they are any where near as crisp as they should be if it were actually hooked up.

I chased all the vacuum hoses and all appear to be hooked up and not split. FYI my cruise works just fine... I'm thinking maybe my linkage isn't hooked up or something. I'll do a search on troubleshooting the HVAC selector linkage to see if there's any tips on how to find out without removing the dash.

Thank you for the help!

Knucklehead, thank you for making me want to go create a quick dunce cap and throw it on my head. For some reason when things go wrong with my rig, I always imagine worst case scenario even though any seasoned mechanic will tell you check the easy stuff first. I just KNEW it had to be a vacuum line or broken linkage because a cracked knob would be too easy.

Well, wouldn't you know. I plucked it off yesterday after I got your note and the damned thing is cracked. I'm going to take some needle nose and spin the post that way to see if it changes the airflow and if it does...Eureka!

Thank you again, I appreciate the sledge hammer of reality.

Pull the knob off and look at the back of it where it pushes onto the hvac post. It is most likely cracked.

just got a knew knob for my 02 from the Jeep dealership for $8.38 to fix this issue. I tried a few auto parts stores and they said they do not have them, it was a dealer or junk yard item.
