3 Types of Common Cages

Bolt in/Add on
This is typically the Cheapest way to do it if you do not know how to weld. It will help add protection for you and those you care about, NOT Recommended for the Xtreme Off-Roader. This cage is for the person who takes it easy but wants to make sure if anything WAS to happen then there would be EXTRA Protection. You can get one of these cages for under 400 and will definitely help if something was to happen.

Weld In/ Add On
These cages can be had for as little as $300, but must be welded in, which can run from 300-1200 depending on were your located. These Kits Must also be painted typically. They are stronger than Bolt-In Cages, but can cost up to 1500-2000 when all said and done. But if you can Weld or know someone who will weld it for you on tha Cheap and are looking to get a Great Cage than this is the way to go. Of course you can never put a price on safety, but at the same time not everyone can afford to Drop $2k on a Cage for their Mall Crawler....

This is the Cheapest "Good" Cage i Could find that could be easily installed and give a small amount of additional protection. I would not recommend this cage for the xtreme offroader, but for your daily driver this would be a good add-on if your budget it tight.

This was my Favorite as far as Bolt On Cages are concerned. It includes everything need for full protection. It can also be tied into the frame with the purchase of their frame tie ins. If you dont weld, and dont wanna pay someone to do it for you, but are looking to get as much protection as possible without welding this is the cage for you.

Ok so thats my write up on a few cages. i will edit it as i find out new things from JF members and if you see anything wrong please let me know so i can correct it.

If a Mod would like to make this a part of the mods section that would be awesome, i plan to add more to it, and also begin to add more cages at a later point.

i plan to add more add-on cages to the list as i have time to do so

I am looking at the poison spyder cage, I don't weld but there is a shop or two nearby that can do the work from me.

I do think cages should be in the builds, under emphasized. There was a thread on seat belts that showed the pictures of jeeps on and off road that rolled or were hit and the cages even the bolt on ones looked to help significantly.

ya if you know someone who will weld for ya that would deff be the way to go, but i dont weld yet, and i dont like others working on my jeep...

If you are going weld in there are lots of options (and it will be stronger). Poison Spyder is nice, but you should look around a bit. For bolt in OR and Rock Hard are primary options. Personally I like the Rockhard setup overall better, but unless they changed recently they didn't replace the bar between the A and B pillars. Stock that is a weak spot. If doing bolt in consider mix and match (as OR and Poison Spyder both offer a bolt in option to fix that weak point).

I'll be following this as well...I've been very interested in seeing the price differences of a bolt-in cage complete vs a weld-in kit (installed by a professional).

Weld it in and go through the dash. A cage is a major safety item that you may rely on to save yourself and your rig. Do it the right way.

My TJ has this in it with the rear portion and is tied into the rockers:

I'll be taking it back to zach to tie it into the frame and some more tube added. I saw quite a few through the dash weld in cages take flops a few weekends ago at a competition and every one held up great.

well i was looking at full weld in poison spider for $1000 not to bad but like $1400 more for install and paint so for a bout $800 going with the rock hard set up and just spray it black

i think a to z makes that kit where the tubes go through the dash rather than having a plate go next to it. i like the tubes through the dash idea more.

im going to buy this http://www.harborfreight.com/12-ton-...der-32888.html and then make one myself and weld it in, im still going to incorporate the rear part of the cage and just make it stronger.

A friend has the Rockhard. It just plain looks scary, and creaks and cracks all the time. Don't waste your money. Learn to weld, or have a friend do it, or even pay to have it completed.

If I were buying a kit, I'd buy the Poly Performance one and add on to it. Genright also has a kit, but it bolts to the dash, where the Poly kit goes through to the floor.

Ok i updated it and added in rockhard.
