Airbag Warning Light

The airbag light keeps coming on in my jeep. It doesnt always come on and it stays on for various lengths of time, then goes out. I dont know why and I am hoping someone has experienced this and has a simple solution. Thanks.

Your best bet is to take it to the dealership. If you get in an accident, there is a chance they may not deploy.

There's a chrysler tech service bulletin that requires replacement of the instrument cluster harness. These are prone to corrosion and cause the symptoms you are experiencing. Some have remedied the problem by removing the instrument cluster and cleaning the terminals, and then coating them with dielectric grease.

you MIGHT have a serious problem....BUT...because of their inherant liability issues, airbag systems usually are pretty reliable. So one way or another figure it out!

I SUSPECT you have a different, very simple problem. I have it as well from time to time. The next time it comes on, place your palms at the upper corners of the instrument panel and press forward & release several times -- does it go out?

If so (as mine does), then your problem is the very common "bad connection" at the two connectors between the dash and the instrument panel. There are many threads out there about this issue as well as ways to clean & tweek the pins, grease, and reassemble.

i have my light constantly on, might be due to it being submerged for about 20 minutes, probably shorted the hell out of it

Thanks gentlemen. I will check on some of these suggestions tomorrow. I wont be taking the Heep to the stealership though. If the airbags dont work, oh well, but I just want the dern light to stay off!
