Air Conditioning Question?

I bought a 04 Jeep with no air components. Will I have to buy a new wiring harness and heater box with the electric motor in it? Or will I have to buy a heater box only? I have the condensor and compressor just wondering about the heater box and wiring harness.

i would assume that you would need a new inside exchanger. the evaporator is what is needed inside the car.

also new controls.

have you checked out the kits available ??

Buy a kit from www.4x4ac.com, I did and it works great.

You have to install the compressor, condensor, accumulator and the lines in the engine compartment... and then you have to remove the entire dash from your Jeep and remove the evaporator case. Then you have to install the evaporator and replace everything... it is about a 15 hour job working straight through. When it's done, it is amazing.

You can buy the OEM AC components from here. Rocky529 from this forum bought one and installed in his TJ.

I have the Ac in my 98' right now on my 04 Rub powertrain. I have the under the dash wiring harness (which is a 04' harness) hard wired into my 98' dash. But I bought a 04 wrecked Rubicon, yeah I had another 04 Rub powertrain before I bought this wrecked one. Wonder if I could install a evaporator into my heater box out of the 04' or would it be cheaper to get the kit, but like I said I have the AC in my jeep right now. I have the 98' hardtop too, how could I get that hooked up. The wrecked jeep was a soft top. This is a unusual Rubicon, I did a vehicle report check and it is a Rubicon but with no AC and a soft top. I thought all Rubicons were standard with AC and a hardtop. Plus it has golden eagle decals and unique rims with the mtr tire package. Also thought they reintroduced the golden eagle edition in 06' only. Thanks for the replies, keep them coming.

It is my understanding that all TJs are wired for a/c, it is just a matter of bolting on the components and installing the evaporator under your dash.

In the 2004 TJ, there is only HVAC housing, no matter about A/C or not: that number is:
5073172AA - Housing, Air Inlet
5073175AA - Housing Upper
5073176AA - Housing Lower
5066355AA - Blower Motor w/wheel
5073183AA - Wiring Harness
5013833AA - Dash control- this is the one you need for A/C as there is another part number for no A/C

There are about a dozen or so instrument panel wiring harness part numbers, but the determining factor is whether tru-lok differential or not and unlimited version or not. Did not see a separation of a/c equipped or not.
