AEM Intake VS. K&N Panel Filter in stock airbox
Lookin to bring more air in and i know both would help but with the AEM would i have to worry about water getting into it and would heat affect it in the summer esp if it;s 90 some degrees...jsut looking for the better way to go i will be putting an exhaust on in the future if that helps any thanks!

I'm about to order the K&N GenII FIPK myself. I had a home made kit on my Dakota and really found no problems with water or heat. My sis has my truck now and she lives in Phoenix, I have heard nothing from her about the setup, so I guess the heat hasn't affected her yet

Kraw,
Do you know of a write up or tech page on how to make your own intake? I have a 97 and don't want to put out the money for the K&N, and I work at a hardware store so parts are no problem. Thanks |

not for Jeeps, I did mine for a Dakota w/ 5.2l It was simple.. I just pulled all the old crap off, put on a rubber connector and glued some PVC together. I can't really explain, it has been several years since I did it. I do have pics of my setup. I wrapped the PVC with heat resistant tape (dunno if it helped or not) I have more pics and info on it here

While you're at it replace your drive shaft with two pieces of angle aluminum that have been welded to make a hollow square. It'll be stronger, since it's a square, and it'll be lighter since it's aluminum. Best of both worlds. The added horsepower you get from less drivetrain resistance is insane and it saves gas.
