Hey guys!
I've been lurking on this forum for a few weeks now, saving up money this summer in anticipation of modifying my stock 2005 wrangler rubicon (2-door, soft-top) for moderate off-roading/ski-season travel in Colorado.
I was wondering if y'all could offer some advice on the parts I've chosen, and how nicely they'll play together. In addition, I want to ensure that I've got all the tools necessary to work on a jeep. Budget is ~$3200 that I've got saved up, plus about ~$300/mo that I'll be able to put towards this project over the coming year. Tires were just replaced by my father, so it would be a waste to change them so soon. They are stock size rims, with lt245/75r16 120/116q's, which I understand to be decent snow and mud tires. Internals (gearbox and such) have been recently checked and replaced in some cases.
Here's my plan:
1) Essentials
- This is stuff that is required for the ski season, and winter living in general.
Tools = not sure what I'll need, but socket wrenches are a surety [~$100]
headlights = http://www.extremeterrain.com/delta-7inch-h4-headlight-kit-01117950x.html [$111]
Hard-top = http://www.extremeterrain.com/rally-tops-1pc-hard-tj-xtrwranglertjfd1.html (trying to source this locally, so I can avoid shipping costs) [~$1600 - 1900 depending on shipping]
Roof-rack = http://www.extremeterrain.com/barricade-roof-rack-black-tj-j100172.html [$299]
Rear bumper = http://www.extremeterrain.com/smittybilt-src-classic-w-tj-yj-76750d.html [$240] (Required for the roof-rack to fit)
Ski Rack = https://www.rei.com/product/796467/...cse_PLA_GOOG&gclid=COiAu7jc_c0CFYpbfgodQVUJTg [$139]
2) Extras, based off of this article: http://www.fourwheeler.com/project-vehicles/154-1105-jeep-wrangler-rubicon-vs-regular-wrangler/
(look a little further than halfway down)
1 - 3 inch shocks (front) = http://www.extremeterrain.com/skyjacker-softride-front-for-tj-n8016.html [48x2 = $96]
1 - 3 inch shocks (back) = http://www.extremeterrain.com/skyjacker-softride-rear-nitro-tj-n8018.html [48x2 = $96]
2 inch coil spacers = http://www.extremeterrain.com/skyjacker-2-poly-value-system-tj-tj20.html [$136]
1 inch body lift = http://www.extremeterrain.com/teraflex-1-body-lift-kit-tj-1942101.html [$128]
1 inch lift motor mounts = http://www.extremeterrain.com/rough-country-1-motor-mount-tj-yj-1156.html [$55]
upgraded steering linkage = (honestly not sure about what this is)
front bumper = http://www.extremeterrain.com/barricade-front-bumper-j20851.html [$300]
winch = http://www.extremeterrain.com/barricade-9500lb-winch-j100204.html [$350]
side armor = http://www.extremeterrain.com/red-rock-4x4-3in-side-step-yj-tj-j100176.html [$170]
body armor = (not sure what to get, or where)
cat-back exhaust = http://www.extremeterrain.com/mbrp-cat-back-single-side-tj-s5500al.html [$270] (it sounds sweet)
light bar = http://www.extremeterrain.com/barricade-light-bar-tj-j100751.html [$125]
Because I'm riding on stock sized wheels, I think I may not need either the coil spacers or body lift kit or the motor mounts in order to still gain a reasonable increase in clearance in proportion to the tires used.
I also would appreciate a veteran perhaps clearing my head of marketing mumbo-jumbo. I want to know what I actually need. Wouldn't hurt to look cool though too. Again, this is a long-term project that I expect to take at least a year (possibly two) to complete.
Thanks for your time!
