I will have a good accounting for everything except the sweat equity. Ballpark, the big adders are engine trans 3.5K, dodge parts 1k, harness and computer 2K, misc parts 1K. so its in the 7-8K ballpark with owner supplied labor.......I already had the d44's, heavy driveshaft, rear axle shaft upgrade etc. so these would have to figured in a 4cyl jeep.....

curiosity (you might have gone over this, but...) whats the weight difference between the 4.0 and the hemi?

I dont know for sure. I have heard 50-100 pounds difference. I have added side rails, bumpers, heavy steering and axles, a winch someday. air compressor tank etc.... I dont think I mind the motor weight trade off...

This is something I have also debated, and look forward to watching you do this. I really didn't consider the extra expenses that you listed, but I guess that's all part of it... and ya get what you pay for.

I'm curious to hear if you considered any other swaps? Not saying that in an sarcastic way, but since this is a mod that I am contemplating---- I'm curious to how you have arrived 'here'.

I know it will be a real pain in the arse, but could you (as much as possible) document and take photos of the steps you are taking? It doesn't seem like anyone has attempted a detailed write up.

GOOD LUCK! I hope there isn't too many hold ups!

good post dude, i second the sticky idea. i think you should take the hood off to allow even more light and not have to jack with it getting in the way. its only 6 bolts. i would love to do this too, but my jeeps my DD and i only have like 200 bucks, so i gotta wait. keep up the good work

with the hemi I can keep the stock dash and gages, it will not throw trouble codes on the obdII, I will keep the cruise and A/C and I will gain rear antilock brakes.

I was worried that other motor trans combinations would need adapters to tie to the t-case. I could get an atlas but that is a big expense. adapters use valuable rear drive shaft length. all and all the hemi was the best fit for me....

tonight I removed everything attaching the engine to the body. low pressure ac line, starter positive, motor ground, fuel line, master cylinder vacuum, clutch slave, cruise actuator, several engine wiring plugs on firewall. I split the exhaust at the rear flange, removed the drive shafts and removed the belly pan. I still need to remove the 2 shifters. I am not in a hurry because I want to pull the motor in the daylight, first chance will be saturday. as far as the hood, its a no go, it hits the opener track. I realize it is only 6 bolts to remove but try doing it yourself, or even better putting it back on yourself. it doesnt bother me nearly enough to go through the trouble of removing it....this weekend I am going to mount a florescent on the wall above the door that can shine through the opening when the door is open. I end up keeping the door closed anyway, the lights seem to be attracting every mosquito in a 2 mile radius. Pics dont show much but here they are...
