Accessory switches

I'm not sure about what years this is included, but my 2002 has three little covers beside the cigarette lighter that the manual calls the accesory switch. Are the switches under the covers or do I have to buy the switch box? I'm mounting some offroad lights to my windshield, and I want to use the accesory port. If any of you have the switch-what other uses do you have for them(since there's three switch ports)? Thanks all.

The 3 switches in my jeep are:

Rear wiper
Rear Defroster
Fog Lights

All from Factory. I think you may need to buy the actual switches.

** Speaking of switches, Anyone know where to get the jet fighter type switches. You know, they are like toggle switches with a red flip up cover over them......anyone...........anyone?

To answer both of you... Painless Wiring makes all kinds of switches. I purchased a rocker switch that was a near perfect fit in the accessory switch panel. I bought it for $8 from macromotive.com. It looks great installed. The model # is 80404, although there are others to choose from as well.

They do actually make the aircraft style switches with the flip up covers, too! I'm not sure if you can purchase those from macromotive or not, though.

You can get more info from www.painlessperformance.com

I dunno what kind of prices you guys are getting for these switches, but I know a guy in IN who sells 'em. I've bought tons of stuff from him before (I rice my PC, not my TJ). His name is Cole. Good products. Good guy.

switch it up, military style!

The Accessory's panel uses normal 2"x1" block panel switches... Should be found at just about every automotive store for under $5. If you really wanna be sly, go to a marine store and get Water-resistant switches for $9.

if you want to go with the stock switch...looks the best, fits perfect...you are going to have to buy the whole fog light wiring harness kit from jeep in order to get the switch and the wiring harness into the switch...costs around $70. looks the best but expensive...

You don't need the whole wiring harness, just the switch. The switch is $30. If you want it to look factory, go for that, but if you don't care, buy another switch and just put it in. I soldered the wires for my KC's to the factory switch. Only thing I didn't get hooked up is the backlighting for the switch. It only lights up when my KC's are actually on.

Good luck and happy wiring.

Here's a kinda silly follow up question. Just so I don't mangle those three switch covers-do they easily pry off with a screwdriver, or do I have to remove the dash covers? Thanks.

Thanks 01Sport. You saved me some frustration if I tried prying with a screwdriver. By the way-what year is your Jeep?....Just kidding

to get the whole switch mounting assembly out:
pull of the vent cover behind the windshield
you will see a couple of screws that hold on the plastic
dash center peice.
remove the ash tray and you will see a screw there as well
after you get the center 'cover' off you should have no problem
from there getting it out, I think it was only 1 screw holding it in.
you can access the wiring harness quite easily and wire in.

that was on a 2000 but I think they haven't made any changes
to the dash mounting for the TJ yet...
