98 wrangler 2.5 engine question

Hi I have a 98 wrangler with a 2.5l I was hoping someone could help me find out what 2.5l's I could replace mine with.Would one work from a 80s jeep, or a Cherokee? Mine is hammering something fierce. I used to be a member here and knew this is where to ask haha unfortunately I lost all my old login information.
