97 TJ Emerg/Parking brake lever removal help

Alright, went out with like 30 min of daylight left to change out my e-brake lever. Could not get the rubber boot off . I have the mini front console, and the e-brake lever is shrouded in a rubberish boot. How in the world do I get the boot off. My worthless Haynes manual dose not give any good info for this. Appreciate the input.

IS it hard to upgrade to a fuller console and ditch the rubber boot?

I just stretched the front of mine off, then the back and it will slide right over the handle. If you still can't get it and you're replacing it with a console anyway, just cut it off. The hardest part is the bracket under the boot. You will need one with the side bracket also so you can bolt the console into it. You have to take the entire e brake handle off to do it.
