The LSD worked great. What trails?! The side trails were hard enough with low traction. I did play on the rock garden by the camp sight. We did a few hill climbs and water crossings. I had water up to my doors. Woolys like any park around here is different when its wet. Wish you could have been there.

And bringing it back for a question...

Any chance you can get a measurement for me? We started welding some brackets to a buddy's 8.8 today but the sway bar bracket is sitting way to high. Obviously the back side of the bracket is cut for the axle tube but if you place it on the axle using the current cut it's way to high and you'd never be able to get the UCA's in because they'd hit the top of the bracket!

I'm looking for the distance between the top of the sway bar bracket and the middle of the UCA bolt hole (between the two horizontal lines in the pic below). It would also help if you could measure from the top of the axle to the center line of the UCA bolt hole (the top horizontal line); this way we can verify the UCA brackets are correct.

Here's a couple of pics of our situation; they're MAD brackets by the way.

TIA for any help.

P.s. When the kit was ordered they forgot to ship the sway bar brackets so it's possible the wrong ones were shipped but if you go to their website it shows the same ones for their TJ kit - but they obviously won't work?

Really great work you did on the axle

But reading your cost list is says you are into the axle swap for $1408

Why do with the 8.8 instead of going with a 44 with some upgraded parts?

I ask because Im stuck trying to decide what to do myself.

Chilipalmer, I took some measurements this morning for you.

The distance between the top of the sway bar bracket and the middle of the UCA bolt hole is 2 1/4 "

The distance between top of the axle to the center line of the UCA bolt hole is 2 7/8".

The bracket does look strange in your picture. What is the effect if you flip it upside down and move it to the other side of the axle. Also, do a quick test fit and see if your sway bar will mount to that bracket. The holes look far apart in the picture. It could just be my eyes playing tricks on me in the morning!

I hope this helps.

Thanks for your compliment! I really enjoyed this project.

The parts list I compiled includes everything I had to do to make an axle swap work correctly with the amount of lift I have. As far as the 8.8 build goes, the total cost for building just the axle is $704. The other costs are things like drive shaft, SYE, upper adjustables and so on. If you have a lift and swap in a Dana 44, you will likely want to do the SYE and CV shaft with adjustable suspension components later anyway. I mainly chose this not for the cost, but for the fun and challenge of doing it and the overall strength of the axle.

Thanks dude; jeepinjoeapex (it's his axle) created a thread so instead of cluttering up this guy's thread I'm going to post over in Joe's.

I didnt do anything to the prop valve. The brakes are working great. Fabbing the ebrake bracket would have been a wiser financial choice for me.

Putting mine in this weekend! Did you have to do the cuts to make the sway bar fit or did you do it just to make it easier? If it has to be done, I'll be doing this tomorrow night I guess.

Also, the guy with the ZJ, was he from Knoxville? If so, I've gone wheelin' with him before when I used to live up there. Was his name Scott?
