Change oil and filter, rotate tires, and grease something can't remember right this sec, is it necessary to take to the dealer and fill out the book or is it ok to do this myself. also what kind of grease do i need?... sorry if this is answered somewhere else i searched and found nothing.

No reason to take it to the dealer. As for the grease you will want to use a NLGI#2 that is for steering/suspension use. You want to hit every fitting on the front end.

There is no reason you can't change your own oil. It's a perfect job to get your feet wet, so to speak, for working on your own Jeep.
Some more links to help with your lube and oil change. http://www.stu-offroad.com/misc/lube-1.htm http://www.stu-offroad.com/engine/oilchange/oilchange-1.htm |

Do all the work yourself. Start a folder and keep all your receipts for your oil, and fliters, etc... That way if there is every a problem down the road you can show your records for maintinace done by yourself. Doing it yourself you will be able to use better products than you would get at the dealer or lube shack.

I'm used to always taking cars to mechanics and letting them do the work, and then crying over the labor charges. Since I got the Jeep and joined this forum, and saw the surplus of information that is on the internet, I convinced myself not to ever bring my Jeep to a mechanic again. I can't believe the stuff I learned and installed all by myself. From lifts, to bumpers, to installing a new stereo headunit and new speakers, installing factory cruise control ($300 labor if you have the dealership do it), to maintenance such as rotating tires, changing my oil, changing my diffs, greasing my front end... and fixing any problems that arise. I purchased a Factory Service Manual and that has step by step with pictures on how to fix whatever you're working on. Unless you don't have the correct tools, there is no excuse why you can't perform maintenance yourself. After the first time you work on it, you'll be hooked... keep reading, it's all I do on my free time. ![]()
