6 spd manual transmission problem/death

Okay so i am fairly certain my tranny is now shot, get grinding of the syncros, sometimes wont go into gear, sometimes stays stuck in gear and wont move the jeep.

So i'm wondering my best option. I could get a rebuilt tranny for it (i've found one with a 3 yr warranty for about $1700). I could get my tranny rebuilt (aamco quoted me min 900 parts min 500 labor and a 30 day warranty). Finally I could get a junkyard tranny, but it might be in the same shape as mine.

I'm leaning towards the rebuilt because of the warranty. If i choose this route i am def open to suggestions as to where to get one, as i didnt really call around too much. I really dont think i want to deal with aamco, heard horror stories. Don't know about junkyard, seems very hit or miss.

Please give me opinions, suggestions, etc, it would be greatly appreciated. Also if anybody knows a good shop to do the work in the Northern VA/Wash DC area, i'd like to know that as well.

Thanks in advance, and please vote even if you dont have a comment.

A minimum of $1400 for a 30 day warranty, and $300 more gets you another 35 months AND a better tranny than AAMCO's crap? Tell AAMCO to go screw. Do you have to have it installed at a shop to get the warranty?

It would be very unlikely to get another 6 speed in that bad of shape. How many miles are on your car? My tranny is 11 years old and is still in great shape. Id say junkyard since your probably likely to get a good tranny out of it.

ive got right about 60000 miles on my jeep, the tranny has been going bad for about 10000, mainly from user error.

any ideas as to what a junkyard tranny should cost me?
