okay.. really getting frustrated at this stall in the project.
i would have liked to have been farther along than i am now. delays on my side..ok. delays on product .

so with the HEMI swap in the proverbial 'holding pattern,' i decided to pull in the trailer and do some repairs, maintenance and upgrades. last year i installed the XRC 8000 onto the trailer that i had originally planned to put on my LJ. we needed a winch on the trailer to pull up dead police cars and broke jeeps etc so it worked out. on one of the last trips out, the winch would not free wheel and to top it off, it would not power 'out'. power 'in' yes. so figured i should dig into the problem.

i peeled back the wire boots to find the motor studs all rusty underneath.. yay michigan. i opened the solenoid power box and observed heavy corrosion in there too...yay michigan.
i then opened the solenoid unit to find what...yep heavy corrosion and rust.. yay michigan.
i popped the end cap off and got the clutch lever to release... yay..period.

i did a search to find that..as suspected.. the solenoid units are junk. well atleast the 1st editions are. seems they changed to a poly unit lately versus the cast unit in my gen 1 winch. looks like i will be ordering some new cole-hersey or ramsey style solenoids and making a new powerpack. if you dont have a cover for this particular winch.. i highly recommend purchasing one -$15 ebay--- would have eliminated a whole bunch of repairs over here. my buddy informs me thats what they call a 'preventative maintenace [PM]' measure. what can i say.... i have been spoiled with the warns ive had over the years....

so decided to add a set of trailer deck lights up front and thinking of tucking a set of 4" round LEDs-clear- at the back. i am working on adding an auxiliary 7 way plug in the very rear of the trailer to allow us to plug in an extra set of magnet mount tow lights.

we are going to put those magnet mount lights on the back of whatever is on the trailer so they are higher up into the field of veiw for the following driver. im sure a few, if not alot, of us have experienced this.... your following the/a trailer on the highway and find yourself sub consciously focusing on the brake lights on the trailered vehicle at eye level...instead of the brake lights on the tow trailer sitting 12" off the ground. especially during the day.

i love etrailer when it comes to this stuff. prices are pretty good and they ship quick. i ordered a set of LED tailights im going to fab into a magnet version and the parts to add landing pad jacks to the rear of the trailer to stabilize it during loading and off loading. yeah those jacks will help when you 'swear' you locked the coupler down and now you have a 3D racing stripe in center of the tailgate on your shiney black ford pickup...

yeah so during all this trailer mayhem.... the discussion about moving from a 35' bumper pull to a 45' gooseneck has surfaced.. hmm 1 more jeep on the trailer.. and 2 atvs...

darnit..... i need to get this HEMI moving so the mayhem will....aahhhhh stop. yeah thats it.

that's a fuge hucking trailer man, I just picked up a 16ft 9000 gvw trailer for my endeavors, but it's only got a 2500# winch on it ...I'll need to upgrade that!

sorry on the pics.. exceeded the 'free' bandwidth. upgraded and all should be working again.

thanks for all the interest and positive re-enforcement.

so here it is, weds afternoon.. and yep no parts. great

i am going to pull the trigger on the gooseneck/5th wheel mounting kit for the truck. then ill just be on the look out for a deal on a trailer.

spent some time on you tube watching hemi jeep vids for consolement during my time of despair---parts.

whooohhoooo i finally found a 5.7 hemi computer without sentry key security. should be here tomorrow, then it gets moved to another box and sent on a cross country journey to chris and tony at hotwireauto.

I'm curious, what donor PCM for the Hemi does not have Sentry key?

Seems like everyone of them would have it built in.

not all vehicles were setup with the sentry key. my 03 hemi ram doesnt have sentry key.

I thought maybe it would be an odd-ball donor, like a Ram work truck or something along those lines.

It seems like Chrysler was putting Sentry key on just about everything starting around the time the Hemi was brought back.

yeah, seems like it. i found it was a problem to find one without sentry. then to top that off, i ran into more than a few JY's that wouldnt 'get involved' or sell me a computer without a trade or the vin number of the vehicle it was going into. what a pain.

emailed rod at TNT, so the new delay...... is that they are now powder coating all their lift parts. well... ok then, i dont mind waiting another minute for it.

next delay...surprising... is that i now have an expected ship date of sometime around may 9th for the jba HEMI headers. before it was expected to ship 4/26... great.

positive..... have to go pick up the front axle tomorrow. $400 cash labor for teardown, arb install, set up gears, install new shafts, super joints and re-assembly. im good with that.

so, i will now have a dana 44 factory air locker with 4.10 gear set and front shafts for sale. i will inspect it all when i get it in my hands tomorrow. the parts only have 7500 miles on them. the air locker and gear will fit in a rear dana 44 and only require 5 psi to operate. youll need a new install kit though.

parts.... parts... parts......... i talked with my buddy who runs a service department a major RV dealership. he tried to help put things in perspective... take 100% of parts they order-50% are shipped wrong- of the 50% shipped right, they average 30% that is damaged in some manor [bent broken scraped]. so only 20% comes through correct and useable. sweet jesus is it like that in all industries?????

guess ive been spoiled in my business with only dealing with a few suppliers and getting good overall service. the biggest problem i have is YEAH.... LEAD TIMES on ordered parts.

so we are back in the holding pattern. the computer didnt show today, so maybe tomorrow. i did get a 7 way installed in the rear of the trailer and a 2nd battery in up front. trying to negotiate a deal on a gooseneck triple car trailer i found.

hopefully something will come together soon. as the weather gets nicer...i get more impatient.
