the oil pan swap... the SRT8 motors are usually found mated to the mercedes NAG1 trannys. they have a cast aluminum oil pan that has an intergrated structural trans cover molded into it for the NAG1. the 'lower half bolt pattern from the NAG1 is different than the 545rfe. the top half is the same [5.7 or 6.1] as they are the same block. so to mate the 545rfe to the 6.1, you have to turn the bottom of the 6.1 into a 5.7. [oil pan, dust plate, structural dust cover and starter] and use a 5.7 flex plate too.

thanks for the info on the axles. thats about the width i was thinking [66/65] and running walker evans 17x9.5 wheels, 5"BS with more than likely, 40" maxxis creepys- non stickys.
ive called a few more JY around for pricing on 350 d60 pull outs, then axle shops for the cut-downs and honeslty im just about to call dynatrac and pull the trigger on the bare housings with ball joint knuckles. that should put them here towards the ends of may.

i was debating on doing a 318 or a 360 vs the basic 5.7 hemi when i started this madness. i did the math over and over and figured by the time i went through anyone of those motors [heads, bearings, exhaust, cam, intake etc] to get it to perform like i would want it too.....i would be in the red just as much as i am now.
