what did we doooo today....

i looked at the mess o' jeep im making..

hmm looks like a good pinion angle.. run it... rofl:


yep the 60" line from the MC was just a bit short, by like 4"


I found a tab/bracket in the box of 'tabs and brackets' that would fit my needs quite nicely for the 3rd mounting point on the gas tank skid. burned it in and bolted it together.




yessir, started re-installing the front links. I don't like the way I did the track bar frame side mount the first time. most likely I will be cutting it all of and re-doing it in the next couple of days. the stupid little rubber O-rings that keep the lower coil over stop locks together, broke so I need new ones. called a King supplier and they said, have to come from King direct, so 7-10 days.

no sir, notta gonna work for me. I grabbed the micrometer and got to measuring them and the groove they run in. Jumped on McMaster carr and order up some new ones. I'll have them in a day or 2.


I also was able to get the fuel line 90% mounted as well

so I told myself that I wasn't leaving the shop until I conquered a key issue that has been a thorn in my side since I got the kit.... the power steering reservoir mount!!!!! finding a place to mount a 3.0"+ diameter, 8.25" tall reservoir in the engine compartment of the rubi has been needless to say frustrating. not say that there aren't places to 'mount it,' the issue is that the lower port on the reservoir needs to be at the very very minimum-level with the intake port of the power steering pump. ideally it should be higher, as high as possible, than the pump intake.... why.. gravity and fluid dynamics blah blah blah. that's why.

even after I removed the evap/purge solenoid, I didn't have 'enough room' to mount the canister.

now factor in the fact that the reservoir has a total of [3] ports that need to be connected to hoses, thus, orientation now becomes another player in the game.

I sat there looking at the real estate I had to work with. and held the reservoir in 1000 different positions. then I grabbed the mounting bracket that comes with the reservoir and reveled in the fact that it only has provisions to mount to a 'horizontal type' bracket.

then after rotating previously installed hoses and fittings, and some EBF measuring... I found where it 'has' to go. will it clear the hood, hopefully, is it higher than the pump, yeah-enough ok genius, how you gonna mount it... enter [1] piece of 11g steel sheet, [1] plasma cutter, [1] speed square, [1] sharpie and [1] welder. actually its more like [4] sharpies because I tend to leave them everywhere as I set them down and walk away from them.











installation will be tomorrow... need [2] people to do it as I cant be inside and outside the jeep at the same time...

got the reservoir bracket mounted


then drilled a hole for my fuel line clamp


I kept it an .750-1.0" off the firewall which I was hoping to be enough to clear the hood as well as run wires behind it etc

started messing with plumbing. which turned out to be another challenge. the kit gives you a 16" piece of 5/8 push lok hose and [2] fittings; a straight and a 90*. in my application, I need about 18-19" and [2] 45* fittings. sweet



heres my hood clearance.. whooooeh...


just enough room for the vent tube


then I pulled the new radiator off the shelf and got to getting that mounted up to the grill. when I ordered this radiator, I had them put a bung in for a temp sensor-that's the extra port on the bottom of the tank.
I made mention that I had to move the cooler assembly down to clear the safety catch, well I resolved that issue.. removed the safety catch. done.




my custom modified stock 'overflow tank' mounting bracket..


threw it back on the frame and pinned it into place




put the hood down and checked radiator/cap clearances


and that's all folks for tonight... closed to hood and walked away...

whew... man I hadn't been able to do much on this lately. finally caught up with the big projects in the shop, the K5 and an 85 Monte Carlo for some custom wiring.... I finally pulled the trigger on some new lower shock tabs to get rid of the quicky rigged tabs I put in to get the jeep movable.

3/16" with 1.5" width from ruff stuff. surprised, they were actually in the mail box today.

Got the pass front coil over re-assembled and back on the rig. I didn't do the drivers yet because I am wanting to redo the frame side track bar mount.

my old track bar mount... I have no idea why I mounted it at such an angle.. needless to say, that contraption is on its way out tonight and working in the revision....






and the jeep sittin on her own shoes...

yeah maybe.... lol... thanks buddy. got my trans guage in, so I will be getting the trans pan up there and filled with fluid. have to rotate the hydro cylinder and then get hoses made up for that. sooooo close to firing her up!!!!

videos are under red rock industries.

getting the rubi on her shoes gave me a bit of a sense of accomplishment, so I took a few hours tonight and decided to pull the hurt motor out of the mustang. supposed to be 95 and humid as hell tomorrow. its 2 am and its already muggy as hell out. icky feeling, ready for a shower.









need to get her torn down and parts off to their respective places, primarily the heads. order new rings and bearings. hopefully I can get her put back together and drive her at least once before it snows... as it has been almost 2 years since she has breathed fire!

Been reading this thread from the start for a .. few days now. Man. You could write a book with this stuff. Glad to see you are triumphing all that life decides to throw at you

I cannot wait to see the finished hemi. You are an inspiration. I hope one day to have enough skill to completely rebuild a jeep, since that is basically what you are doing. Mad props, and keep up the good work!
