5th gear only hum/ vibration ONLY in 5th at all speeds. NV3550
Okay so I realize I have a YJ and posting in TJ forum. I do have a 02 TJ transmission that I believe is the source of the problem, so i figured it best fit here.
I had a pretty bad Pinion angle and that is all solved now. New U-joints, tom woods drive shafts and SYE. I took off front drive shaft to eliminate any doubts. I thought it was the rear drive shaft being unbalanced or bad u joint so I took it into a very good driveshaft shop here in san antonio, tx and they checked for balance and said everything is good and didnt charge me anything. At this point I am left to think its something in the transmission.
I checked the transfluid it may have been a little low, so I topped it off with syncromesh.
This only happens in 5th gear. It is a hum, vibration noise which happens at all speeds under acceleration(foot on gas) in 5th only. 4th gear makes no noise at all.
I am at the point where I am assuming it must be a transmission problem? Or possibly transfer case? The sound seems to be coming directly under the passenger side near floor board. Where transmission is. Any help direction or input with anyone with experience in this would help. Thanks. I am really struggling with getting this fixed.. I have searched with several jeep forums and unable to pin down a solution.
