i would start by adding some strenth to the rear axle, a Super 35 or 8.8. lockers and gears, then armor. looks like you have a good base from looking at your profile. i guess it all depends on what your flavor of offroad is.

I love spending other people's money...
IMO, you first need a winch. My thinking is that even locked axles sometimes get stuck...usually further off the road than those with open axles.
I know my Shrubmaster 8000 (oops, I mean Warn M8000) has worked flawlessly and even impressed my wife this spring when I yanked some big shrubs out of the ground.
After that, beef up the axles with alloy shafts/lockers/brakes and add some suspension/body armor. Can't go wrong there...

For a trail rig definitely get rid of the d35, go for a d44 or an 8.8. Long arm suspension with 4"-5" springs, 35"-37" tires and some highline fenders to clear the tires. Don't forget about the armor.

You can never go wrong with armor. Start with critical driveline components, and then move on from there (engine skid, steering box skid, stronger differential covers, gas tank skid). After those items are covered, then I would look into upgrading the rear axle and maybe even a tummy tuck.

35's (trail rig)? Will need to get rid of the D35. 8.8 or D44 will eat most of your budget. Re-gearing to 4:56 or even 4:88 (trail rig) will be necessary. Lock the front and rear. 1.25 inch body lift to clear the 35's. Add armor if any money left in budget. It's amazing how fast 5g goes!

With lockers and upgraded axles, you will have a very capable trail rig. So capable that you will likely get into situations where you would have wished you took some of that money and spent it on armor first. At a minimum, I would add an engine skid and steering skid first, as they are the most vulnerable.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a Super 35 on 35's. If you spend all the money for a 44 or 8.8 your still stuck with a max gear of 4.88. THis is all the front 30 can do.
Being in CO. 4.88's, S35 locker of your choice. Belly up, armor and a winch.

Thanks for the ideas guys.I failed to mention I already have the winch and bumper covered. There in transit as of 8/21(not part of the $5g).As far as the build goes im going to go in stages . First being mopar performance dana 44s and 5on5 rims. That ought to take care of any money burning a hole in my pocket.Stage 2 will be RE/LA kit 35s and under armor.Coming from diesel truck build ups to now jeeps. oh boy here we go.

To Chrysler's marketing guys for getting every TJ guy excited about "bolt-in" Dana 44's (with fine print stating they are for current year wrangler's/JK's)
