it was overspray from the can i guess. they were brand new tires that were just mounted - i didnt do it

55 watts seems pretty excessive for reverse lights.

If you don't insist on such high wattage, you can always go with some cheaper ($10/each) lights that can mount flush. They don't need a relay either - they're about 30 watts.

They make the same thing in LED for $80 each. No thanks.
