5.13's, 33's and front driveline vibration

Is there anyone running 5.13's and 33's that is picking up a front drive shaft vibration starting at 60mph? I know the drive shafts are spinning approx. 25-30 mph faster than stock. I thought there was a problem with my stock shaft with 15k miles so I ordered a Tom Wood's front shaft and it is doing the same thing. I removed the front drive shaft and everything is as smooth as it should be. My friend who owns Tucson Differential, did a runout with his dial indicator, on the u joints, yoke and driveshaft. Everything is within .002". Has anybody heard any issues with bent input shaft or bearing problems in the tcase? If not we will be into it next week.

I could be Vibe's from your engine running at such a high RPM. Or tranny running to too high of an RPM. What are your RPM's at 60 MPH?

So the front pinion angle is the same as the front driveshaft's?

2300 rpm at 60mph. I installed a Dakota Digital sp-5 and speedo is nuts on, The motor rpm is where it should be stock.lol. Take out front driveshaft and there is no vibration at all.

Yup, Exact, I use a spi-tronic pro 360 digital level as I am a fabricator, I have messed with pinion angles from 5-7 degrees and I have it set at 6 degrees to make pinion angle and Jeep happy. I will be back as wife has Lasagne dinner ready. Thanks for replys.

Torque down the front output pinion nut to ~130 lbs. Make sure the t-case is in 4low when you do this.

is your front driveshaft in balance? I just swapped to 4.56's from 3.07's and I picked up a small ds vibe because my ds is slightly out of balance but with the old gears it never spun fast enough to vibe, now with the 4.56's it shows up around 45-50

Brand new Tom Woods that I picked up at their shop 2 weeks ago on my way to Idaho, They knew that I had 5.13's and 33's, They even balance the cv.

It's obviously not the shaft itself but the slip splines may be worth checking. Play in the splines can cause a vibe. Check the output and axle pinion nuts and torque them down good. You'll need a breaker bar.

Thanks Imped, I bought a new Tom Woods shaft 2 weeks ago thinking my stock shaft that has 15k miles on it may be bad for some reason( factory blem). Will be rechecking torque on nuts.

OK, saga continues, Awhile back tore tcase apart again and dial indicated output shaft, perfect, replaced both bearings cuz I was in there, no difference, sent shaft back to Woods for rebalance, no difference. Take front shaft out and no vibes up to 75mph. So today I replaced Rubi tcase chain with a Morse chain cuz stock chain seemed to have a lot of slop. Well low and behold no difference. So does anybody know where I can get manual hubs since Warn discontinued them. BTW my LJ Rubi has 17,000 miles on it now, so it is not like its wore out. Thanks

Well I am bringing this back up since I am a little worried that I will be in the same boat as you are. I sent my front driveshaft out to Tom Wood to get it balanced with new joints and CV as well.

I did some digging around and apparently the maximum you can balance that type of driveshaft at safely is around 3,300rpms which is close to what Tom Woods will balance it out to.

I am running 4.88 with 35" equivalent tires and I am worried that I am not going to solve my pulsing vibration issue. My vibration is a pulsation that comes in and out every 1 second at 45MPH. I will keep you posted on what I find out in two weeks.

I am experiencing the same problem with my LJ. I am thinking I might have a bent front axle. One of my front outer axle housing seals looks pretty bad? It's going to be a few days till I can check it out. Please keep us informed on what you find out.
