4x4 Problems! 2005 Jeep TJ (Inexperienced)

Hey everyone,

I am a relatively new Jeep owner and I have been loving it so far. Today was the first time I've had to use the 4x4h because of the snowy road conditions.

First of all, when I engage the 4x4, the dash indicator doesn't turn on and there is an automatic rattling under my feet, but it seems to work. Whenever there is a change in speed, the 4x4 disengages and there is a heavy grinding sound coming from under my feet. If I engage RWD then back to 4x4h, it engages, but with that rattling again.

I managed to make it to work this morning, but when I went to park I tried to put it back into RWD but now my lever is stuck on 4x4h.

Please bare with me forum. I am very inexperienced with this stuff. Help me out!

Thanks!

Fill out your profile for better answers.I'd start with adjusting the shifter linkage.Make sure you're rolling slightly when shifting into 4WD.If you have an auto, you have to be in neutral when shifting into 4Lo.

I agree

Sounds like you just need a slight adjustment to the linkage. May not be completely engaging.
