42RLE Question

When I shift from Park to Drive or drive to reverse or reverse to drive I can here a noise from under the hood. It sounds like a little servo motor sound and it coresponds with selecting your gear.

Now typically the linkage selects the gear location so what the hell is the noise I'm hearing. Do any of you hear this noise also?

I don't have an auto so I'm not a direct help.

Can you get someone else to shift it while you try and zero in on the noise under the hood?

Mine does that too. I asked this very question last week and recieved no replies. Mine sounds more like it is coming from the top of the tranny though. I have since read that there are shifting ?? solenoids, so assumed this what we hear, them energizing.

x2 I have the same noise. Must be normal. I have changed the tranny filter and serviced it more often than supposed to so I am assuming this is a vary normal function.

It is 100% Normal.

I'm right in the heart of one of Chrysler's strongest sales markets. I can stand on any street corner in my town and in ten minutes probably hear 30-40 examples of this sound, which goes "bzzzz---zz-tic." It's completely normal. It's the transmission fluid control solenoid valves opening and shutting rapidly to make the fluid go where it's supposed to go to shift the transmission. All the FWD/AWD 4 speed automatics make this sound with every upshift, every downshift, and every gear selection. You hear the one as you pull to a stop, because the road and engine noise are minimal at this low speed.
