41 tooth speedo gear problem
I pulled out the 36 tooth speedo gear and it seems that the 41 tooth won't fit! Did anyone else experience this problem.

what gears are you running? with 35" tires....I wouldn't think you'd need 41. I've got 37" tires with either 4.88 or 4.56 (bought the jeep from my bro and he can't remember) and I need a 35 or 37...so I got a 36 tooth gear...course I'm having some "bouncing issues".
The gear won't fit in the housing hole in the transfer case or once in you can't rotate and bolt down?

GolenJeep...
I used a chart from here....and it said 36 with what I have.... could that be the bouncing issue? do I need more teeth....like a 39?

I've had bouncing issues in the past with other gearing and tire sizes but, it came down to I kept eating up the nylon gears, so I got to thinking the electronic sensor which is on the newer TJ's,was bad! Sure enough put the new sensor shaft that the gear mates with and I haven't had an issue since!! Good luck! There must have been a tight spot in the sensor, and it wasn't allowing the gear to spin freely!

I can't get the site to come up! Just Google Jeep speedometer gear site! You will find something helpful!

It's usually a speedo drive not the gear that causes the problem! It can bounce and shoot over too 120 MPH when the teeth are coming unglued but there is usually something causing the gear to disintegrate!

I have 5.13 and 35's. I have a 36 tooth in there right now. The new 41 tooth just wouldn't go in all the way. it seemed to big. originally there was 37's on it and it was right on. Now when I'm at 70 I'm really at about 61-62. I used redrock4x4 chart to determine I needed a 41 tooth.

The housing has different positions for different size gears. I believe there is a 1/4 turn difference between 36 and 41 tooth. The housing is marked.

Check the length of the shaft on the gear. The TJ uses a short shaft gear while the YJ uses a long shaft gear. Maybe you got one for a YJ instead of a TJ.

no it's for a TJ. I'm going to try it again and see what happens.
