$4000 would you do it axle etc
I have $4000 to spend and want to put it in my LJ unlimited 2005 with rear 44 lsd and front d30.
For $4000 including tax and labor I get a G2 d44 front axle with chrome molly shafts etc with ARB locker, 488 gears front and rear plus arb compressor.
Is this a good deal, is G2 good quality

Mike, with what you have in your profile, I'd take an awesome wheeling trip and upgrade as required by brakage.

You can build a near bullet proof HPD30 for the front for around 2 grand that will be just as strong as a front Dana 44 plus it would be high pinion as well which is more desirable.

I think you're a little off. The shell on a turtle is thicker by a factor of 1.6783 while compared to the speed of a Puma, when chasing a rabbit. Therefore, if you hit a nail with a 4 lb. hammer, the thickness of the wood needs to be 4, and your grip should be on your lower regions.

Save some money and keep an eye out on Craigslist. I scored two decent axles for $1300 (HP D30/8.8). Both axles were already geared (w/4.56’s) plus they had lockers front and rear (ARB/Detroit). Truthfully he wanted $1500. But his wife wanted them out of the garage (to get her parking space back) so he took my offer of $1300.

Ya my current gearing 373 and to have them changed out to 488 with labor lube etc and a locker up front is $2000 plus and tax. So for an extra $2000 I can get a better axle chrome shafts sell my stock d30 $500 so its $1500 and have a rig that will save me an expensive tow ride home plus fixing a d30 that I could have made stronger at this point in my life..

Oooohhhj! 3.73 changes things. I just looked at your (wishful?) profile. Still not sure I'd do the G2, though.

I started a 10 page thread or so about the G2 front axle and came up with the following, if I am not mistaken it comes in close to $3000 bucks without knuckles/brakes etc. Now its not a true 44, it is similar to a Rubicon 44 as it uses some Dana 30 parts. If you want a Dana 44, consider a Dynatrac axle. However they are super pricey and you might as well step it up to the Dana 60 if you want to spend that much cash. So my recommendation, build a nice HP30 setup to match the 44 in the rear.
