4.5" coils and short arms?
Is 4.5" too tall to continue to run short arms? I have a set of JKS lowers that I'm fond of, but I'm hoping that I won't trash the ride with the longer coils. I see that several vendors including RE make a 4.5" kit w/SAs, so it can't be REAL bad...(can it?)
Any and all opinions are welcome.

Just a little rougher ride from the angle of the control arms..but it's do-able.

I'm at 6" with short arms. The rides not really bad at all. The flex isn't very good and every once in a while I'll hit a bump that throws me like a rodeo bull. I think 4.5 is definetly ok though. You're not pushing it too bad at all.
The problem I am personally running into now is, I installed a SYE and CV and I am still getting DL vibration because my upper control arms are stock in the rear so the yoke is pointing straight ahead and creating a bad angle. I am either going to make or purchase adjustable upper control arms. At 4.5 inches, I'm not sure if you'll run into that problem or not. Just an FYI. Good luck with it!

I should be OK there, as I have adjustable uppers AND lowers in the rear.
Thanks!

I run a currie lift. The rear springs were too soft for loaded-for-trail camping so I swapped 'em for RE 4.5". Perfect. Fronts are still Currie 4".
With bar pin eliminators and shock shifters the Ranchos were bottoming out, so the extra clearance works great with them along with longer bumpstops. I even went down and talked to John Currie personally, he said 'we just don't have a problem like that.' But then they tow their rigs out on a trailer and wheel them empty, so yeah, they've never run into that problem!! And that was with their "HD" for hardtop springs. They were progressive wound and the lighter rate coils were always bottomed out on themselves.
I may still opt for the RE long arm conversion. Just run it with my Currie arms and rancho shocks! It's about a $1400 upgrade. I'm not sure what benefit I would get with them. I think I'd rather spend the money on a HP30 setup with ARB for the front axle.
