4.0 Starts for 3 seconds then stalls.
My 04 Rubicon is acting like a chump this morning and stalls after 3 seconds. I thought I heard a little plunger noise coming from the rear over the last few weeks. I'm thinking it's the fuwl pump. Any suggestions?

fuel pump wouldnt make a sound like that, a plunger noise in the rear on your year wrangler would probably be part of the emissions system. As for the starting issue, does it stay running if you give it some gas while starting it ?

No; you can rev it up but it will die after 3 seconds.

MAP Sensor will cause that behaviour as well. I would check for vacuum leaks and/or make sure the sensor isn't bad. I only had 1 go bad on all my jeeps over the years - but it was the same as what you are experiencing. It was a pain to track down but its easy to test (need a hand vacuum pump and a VOM):

Why would a jeep be able to run if the vacuum line came of the manifold then? The MAP sensor would be showing 0in-Hg so wouldn't that mess with it, more so than just throwing a code? Or is there some over ride on the system.
For a quick temp fix could you just unplug the vacuum line from the manifold? Or possibly just unplug the MAP sensor? Or is a 0 voltage output likely the culprit of this?

Does it have the Sentry security system?

Because if the MAP sensor loses vacuum or is otherwise faulty - one of the things it will do is starve the vehicle of fuel. Guess you don't know what a MAP sensor does so here is a link:

I was asking why will my jeep will continue to run even though my vacuum line is off my manifold, thus the MAP has no vacuum.
Or maybe I am mistaking on the vacuum line that goes to the MAP sensor. Is that the same line that controls the air flow vents selector?
This one?

With this system, if you attempt to start the engine with a key that is not a chipped key or one that is not programmed into the Sentry system, the engine will start and die after a few seconds. There are some Sentry system faults that will do the same thing even with a properly programmed key.

The problem was that I had used a spare key that I had made for the first time. It wouldn't start without a chrysler key.

X2, your symptom is exactly what a bad Sentry key or bad Sentry key system would cause.

Why? The Sentry system is pretty good. It does exactly what it is designed to do. All you have to do is follow the instructions.
