Alright, I just boutgh my about eighth Jeep and I want to run 37's. Been researching it for a while. I am going to run tube fenders up front and a Genright or Poison Spyder crusher in the rear. I am going to get the one that makes the wheel opening larger by cutting it out. My lift will be one that has a 4 link in the rear. I want a LA lift. I am looking hard at Clayton or Rockcrawler. The question is, what is the smallest lift i can run without rubbing? Any suggestions? I am pretty sure I need wheel spacers. What are the pros and cons of wheel spacers?
I'm running 1.5" wheel spacers now without any issue, other that a STUPID national tire store NOT living up to there warante to rotate them with wheel spacers like the store manager "Garenteed" LMAO enough whinning.
I am running a 2.5 SL and a 1.25 Sl from looking at Rokmens website and there LCG (low center of gravity) jeep there, with the tube fenders I shold be able to run them with that.
Good to see another Louisville person. If you want to keep it low, you can run the high line tube fenders.
Clayton makes a good kit and they are about to or have released a 3 link for the front.
I say depending on your fender choice either a 3.5 or 4.5 springs (or less with the highlines) with proper bumpstops. A brake upgrade is basically a must.
Here is my jeep. 37" Iroks on 4.5"rubicon express suspension, 1" body lift. TNT tube fenders on the front. IF you put full replacement tube fenders front and back you wouldnt need the body lift. but the body lift does make some things easier like working on the top of the rear shocks when the bolts break, putting in a MML, a tummy tuck, a gas tank skid and other things.
Unlimitedlou, don't take comments here too personal. Most are here to help.
I'm very experienced and nonetheless I've gained important insights here while lurking in the background especially from the likes of Mrblaine, unlimited04, Bransford and others. When you preface your questions with what appears to be solid wheeling experience, i.e., on your "eighth" jeep, many of us expect your jeep knowledge base to be deep and significant. With 37s on D44 axles and wheeling a little on the hard side, even if they're built and geared right, is probably pushing the limits of that axle...and that's not considering the very likely material upgrades required for brakes, steering, suspension, and so forth.
Doesn't mean it can't be done, many have done it, but running D44s w/ 37s and wheeling hard probably isn't wise.
This is one I put together with 37" MTR's on 3.5" RE SA's and a DIY Highline hack job, it is a daily driver that goes on mild trail runs occasionally, I put in chromo axles and 5.13's front and rear.... I made sure he understood the axles couldn't be expected to hold up to much hard wheeling.
While I understand that if someone posts on here they are at a high risk of being ridiculed. With that being said, I guess a person on this site has to have hundreds of posts not to be regarded as a novice. My post only asked for suggestions on lift height for the build I am planning. I am well aware of the ill effects of big tires vs small axles. My last YJ had the stocker axle with an ARB, 35's, homemade axle truss from knuckle to knuckle, moloy axles, and 4:56 gears. It was all built and fabricated in my garage by me. I learned the hard way on that one by breaking a u-joint and losing my front wheel.
While I was in the Navy, back in the early 90's I had my first CJ shipped to Italy. I wheeled it there with a local Italian club called the Eco-Explorers. Back then, there was no forum for help. Heck, there wasn't even any other Jeeps around. I was sorrounded by Suzukis, Toyotas, and Dihatsus. When I broke it, I had to order parts from the US and figure it out. There was no local Jeep dealer.
As far as brakes go, I used to work at Akebono, one of the worlds largest brake manufacturers. I know a little something about brakes. I had a 9 inch in the rear of my last YJ with disc brakes. There was a little finessing and massaging done to get the correct braking on that one.
The reason I became a paid member was to kind of give back to the site for the wealth of knowledge on the forum. I can normally find any answer I need without posting. I used to use Pirate alot, but there was just to many negative and speculative replies. Kind of what I am starting to see here.
After all that being said, I know a little more than a novice. Thanks again for the replies that were useful. Do you know what assuming does? It makes an a** out of u and me.
