360 engine swap

I am looking at doing a 360 dodge engine swap into my 2003 TJ. I am going to need a 360, manual transmission, engine computer(ECM) that is non skim (no chip in key), and PCI data bus. It looks like I will need an engine computer out of a 2002-2003 Dodge Ram 1500. That is the years that the PCI data bus, and the 360 was being used (at least I can find). Does anyone know if dodge used a manual trans behind the 360 engine in 2002-2003? Or can I use a 360 automatic computer and have it reprogrammed to work with the manual trans without throwing a check engine light?

I don't think the 5.9 (those years anyway) came with a manual trans. I searched Autotrader nationwide and only found 4.7s with manuals.

I also don't think you can reprogram the computer from an auto to work with a manual.

If it were me, I'd forget the data bus stuff and just do what I want. (I'd gladly make a new dash panel, the TJ gauges are hardly sweet anyway...) But then again, in some states that might be troublesome.

I live in Ga. and need to pass the smog check to be able to drive my Jeep. If I can't get a manual pci computer, I could get a ccd dash and computer...maybe?

5.9 Manuals were only in the 2500 and 3500 since sometime in the 90's. 2002 was still the old body style for the HD's guess it would be the old bus. 2003 was the new body but the 360 was replaced by the Hemi.

From what I can find on alldata.com, the 360 was used in 2002 in the 1500 and that used the pci bus. The 360 was an option in the 2500 with a manual trans in 2002, but that had the old ccd bus.

Dodge also used the 360 in the Dakota. The pci bus was used in the dakota starting in 2001. But I don't think the Dakota used a manual trans behind the 360.

I know I can't help you a lot but it turns out that it doesn't matter what type of ECM you have to mix and match with manual or auto trans... A friend of mine recently swaped his 32RH with an AX15 and without swapping his ECM on his '01 and there was no Check Engine light after the swap

That's true for the non pcm controlled trans. But not the re family trans that are found in v8 dodge vehicles.

I was just looking at b&g performance website. They advertize computer flashing for hemi and magnum engine swaps. I'll contact them on Monday, and post what they have to say...if anyone is interested.

And of course, there is another option.
Choose a different engine.
The 5.9 was a gas hog anyway....

You could always look into a 5.2 manual PCM as those definitely are around. I'm not sure the difference in the programming in the 5.2/5.9 but if you found a ~00 ram with a 5.2/manual then there are all your parts right there...

Good luck with the swap, I have spent many hours researching the 5.2 swap and it seems reasonably straight forward (at least for '97-'02 TJ's).

Yeah I could, but I already have a low mileage, 2002, 360 sitting on a stand, and I can use my 3550 trans and transfercase with a dakota bellhousing.

I have a 5.9 out of a 2001 dodge durango. i still get service engine light every now and then. I've had it checked out, but can't find anything wrong. code says cats. Mine looks cool and sounds great, but the gas mileage sucks.
I didn't buy it for the gas mileage anyway.
Good luck and have fun
