The driver looks either bored, sleepy or on the cel phone. That's dangerous.

That's a real stretch saying that and a pretty bad comment based on a poor-at-best partial image of the driver.

To me it looks like he's rubbing his head because in the passenger seat his wife is going hysterical and screaming at him... no wait, that's what it would be if it were a photo of ME doing that LOL

Awesome photo, I can openly admit I'm a speed junky but not sure I have the you-know-what's to do that

I think it all depends on how you drive. My truck weighs 6800lb and has a 4-5K lb camper in the bed. It does not stop quickly, but i drive it like a big truck and have never had an issue. I wish there were aftermarket brakes, but i'm not going to buy 7 new 18.5" rims and tires to fit them in. If you tailgate my beast in your jeep with 35s and stock brakes you will be fine, but if you tailgate my mustang with wide sticky tires and 14" 4 piston brembos you would have serious issues if i stopped quickly. It would pull -1G on the stock brakes before i upgraded. I have not measured it with the new ones, but it makes your eyeballs feel like they will pop out.

You can pass any damn test you want, it doesn't change the fact that the factory brakes in MY Jeep are not up to MY standards even for the 33's I run.

My family rides with me in the Jeep, and I feel that any emergency stop even with 33's is dicey at best. Not a chance in hell I will run bigger tires until the brakes are upgraded.

Driving a rig that doesn't stop properly is bad judgement, intentionally making a mod that makes them brake even worse is grossly irresponsible. It isn't just about passing a test or risking your own rig/life. It could be MY wife and kids that you slam into and injure because your factory brakes on 35's were "good enough".

Brakes are deemed an "I will get around to them" item by most people for 1 very simple reason. You can't show them off like you can a new winch, fancy new bumper, armor, tires, or rollcage.

And sliding your way down a steep rocky trail with factory brakes is just scary IMO.

I learned to drive back when drum brakes were the norm and power brakes were science fiction. I learned early on to not tailgate, and to use engine compression not my brakes to control my speed on downhills. And next I'll start talking about how I had to walk five miles to school, uphill, both ways, through five foot snow drifts, so I'll stop now .

Brakes are a personal decision based on how you drive, where you drive, and what you're doing with your vehicle. I'm not going to tell anybody that any particular brake setup is the One True Way of doing things. It's your ride, outfit it according to your own needs, whether that is the One True Way proposed by certain people or some other solution.

Nope, both hands are on the wheel, I'm just looking off to the side because the only other view was blue sky.

Going up was fun, coming back down... not so much.
Between not having enough brakes and my rear overhang, it was not fun.

I don't understand what all this fuss about the brake upgrades really boils down to. Spend $150 and upgrade your rear brakes with the discs from a ZJ and be happy. Upgrading everything else and leaving your brakes stock is just ridiculous.

This happens on every single automotive forum I've been on. Here it is tire sizes and weight, elsewhere it is crazy horsepower... brakes always come last...

See there must be some large differences between TJs. With the same tires (33x12.5 BFG MTs) mine will lock them up and make huge skid marks at 50mph. Rolling on the brakes i can make them howl any time i want.
