35 inch tires?

I'm thinking of getting 35inch tires and was wondering what else needs to be done to my jeep TJ if I have a 4" lift and 15by10.5 rims? gears? brakes?

gear to 4.56, get an sye and cv shaft if you can afford it or drop your tcase and lengthen the rear shaft for now. brakes are ok stock and steering will get you by but youll def want to up your steering eventually.

4.56 is a bit undergeared for 35" tires, especially once you've driven that size tire with 4.88 gearing which I strongly (!) recommend. Beyond that, you'll need to beef up the tie rod and drag link. Brakes get fairly marginal at the 35" tire size too. Hopefully you have a Dana 44 rear axle that is beefier enough to easily withstand the greater stress of 35" tires. The weaker Dana 35c axle that many TJs have is very marginal with 35" tires and downright breakage prone when a locker is added into the mix.

You will probably need a 1" body lift too.

From your profile you already have the 4" lift.If you don't have a SYE,I guess you don't need it I went with a 3.5" and 1" BL.I adjusted to the brakes after a week or two.It depends how much wheelin you do and how hardcore you are.I do only power line trail, snow and a little mud, nothing big.Regearing is in the near future but,I've got stock gears and axles until something breaks and mine drives fine. The previous owner never went offroad or abused anything.I think that makes a big difference.I have no problems(YET).I don't listen to other people(as my license plate might hint at).

i have a 4" rough country lift with the transfercase drop
i have 35" goodyear MTR's and crager soft 8 wheels with 4" backspacing
everything works out great with the exception that i need lower gears
no rubbing at all even when fully articulated

If you have a 3 speed auto 4.88's are too much. I have 35's 4.88's and 3 speed auto and the RPM's are way to high IMO and I get single digit gas mileage. Not that I care I drive it on the trailer, tow it, wheel it, load it back up and drop it off in my garage but if I had to drive it on the street that combo is not a good one.

If you have a stick 4.88's are fine.

You'll need gears for sure...4:88's allow you to cruise on the highway. I think 4:56 would be better suited for a pavement princess, that would get the rpms to 2100 at 65 like my x was. I spin 2700 to keep up on the highway with 4:88's, but it sure is sweet on the trail. Oh, and I have the nv3550 for reference.

Your suspension will clear them, I have 3.5 springs and rub a little.

yeah, mines manual and I can't trailer it. I have 33 right now and I get some tire rub when I really flex it. I think my springs are getting old. Is there any way to tell?

I'd like to chime in...

I see so many comments on this, that is very interesting on how it folds out..

As far as concerns go.. I worry about the rear end.. The D35. Not because of it breaking, but because the info is all over the place. I see SOO many different views on the rear end.., and I'd say.. more then 60% of the people running 35's are on the D35... hmm... There seems to be such a confusing conversion about it all..

Funny.. Had I NOT have read any of the talk about the D35, I would have thrown on 33's without thinking twice!!

I can see how the hardcore rock guys would need a beefer setup, but the people who DON'T rock climb, and do powerlines, mud, SMALL rocks, and tree roots, can't a D35 do just fine...?? Especially open,(not locked), and not trying to race everyone!!

I guess the answer is: When IS the D35 supposed to break?? Upon what actions, and circumstance?

The way I see it is.. I have to spend how much on the rear end before 35's!!!... Gees.. that's more then the lift & tires..!! (depending on lift.. 4", not longarms) It kind of becomes a turn off.. in a way..

I'm going to run 33's on my D35, and I wheel on the easy stuff, being it's my DD, and if it breaks.. then it happens.. but there's too much "uncertain" opinions out there, and I feel that there's NOT enough proof on the subject.. Meaning.. I want to see weekend wheelers,(light, easy trail, fun mud stuff), guys, saying they have no problems running the d35 with 35's!!

BTW, this isn't a rant.. Everyone has there opinions on the subject, but opinions don't always make facts.
