I took the ghetto approach on my YJ, so I'd assume it'd work on a TJ as well. The little rubber bumper/spacers that are made to keep the stock tire from rubbing on the tail gate (and to stabilize it as well are all I used.

I took the whole mount itself off the tailgate, then I unbolted the little rubber spacers and used them to space out the spare tire mount. So I put the rubber tire spacers between the tailgate and tire carrier and just ran the same bolts through. It makes the carrier stick out another two inches or so and it should clear the bumper then. I had a TJ bumper on my YJ and it worked with a 32x11.50 spare on a stock rim. <><

Took the rear bumper off and it fit ok then. The backspacing on my aftermarket steel wheels are almost like the factory wheels.

I'll run it like that until I can get a rear bumper with carrier.

Thanks for the replies.
mine fit fine with the stock wheels after I took the rubber stops off the gate and below and trimmed about 1" off. my aftermarket bumper even holds the bottom of the tire just perfect so there isn't as much stress on the rear gate.

oh and BTW get ride of the 3rd brake light, it's usless IMO....

If you don't need too much room, I have read on here that some people just air down their spare a little to get it to fit.

I have a 32" BFG TA spare i just mounted on the back of my jeep with a stock rim and all i had to do was take off the four little rubber stopper things. I plan on trimming them down so they can maintain their original purpose buit have yet to do so. it cleared the thrid light by about a half a centimeter lol. If it was a brand new tire, i dont think it would have fit, but half tread made it fine

Are you running stock suspension? Does anything rub with the 265's?

Thanks but...

At 1.5 years old, is it better to start a new thread or what? Sorry but I'm new to forums. I saw the dates but didn't know it wasn't appropriate. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Mike

Actually, since your question about the suspension setup is not on topic with this thread, regardless of how old the thread is, it would be better to start a new thread. Or better yet, reply to an existing one as I'm sure your question has been asked (if not already answered) many times. But if you're going to bring a thread back from the dead, just acknowledge that fact so people don't jump to the conclusion that you're a noob that doesn't know what he's doing Also, so 50 other people don't reply to your question not realizing it's an old thread. Not trying to beat up on you or anything, just some friendly advice

I think you are fine. A lot of people feel the need to become "playground supervisor" rather than answering the questions. Most of who are not even forum supporters. If you post on an old thread, members who have previously posted on it will see it and may add more info. Just my .02.
