3.07 gears to 4.10s

I have 3.07s in my 01 tj with the 6cyl and 3 speed auto, and I would like to regear to 4.10s. I know that i have to get new carriers, but what ratio will work. is it 3.55 and up or 3.73 and up? Also, where can i find a good price on some gearsets and master install kits? Can i get carriers from a cherockee or a grand cherokee too if it has the d30 and d35 like my jeep does. Thanks for the help and any other advice is appreciated!

What size will you be running with the lower gears?

I am interested in what others have to say about this as i am in the same boat. if you dont mind me asking, what limitations have you seen with your 3.07 gears that makes you want to go to 4.10? I just recently went from 30" to 33" and things seem okay but all i have done is drive around the area.

4.10s would be the choice to go with.

D30 carrier break - 3.55 / 3.73

D35 carrier break - 3.31 / 3.55

Yes you can use carriers from other vehicles as long as they have the same axles.

I wouldn't bother looking for a used carrier. A new open carrier is only about $60.

And to get up test hill with 33" tires and 3.07 gears, get a longer running start at it.

On that note, if either of you guys posting about wanting 4.10s wants to buy a Dana 35 with a set of spare axle shafts for much less than the price of regearing, let me know in a pm

With 33's, the 4.10 gears will take you back up to stock performance.

I upgraded from 3.07 to 4.10 and I am running 33s. IMO, perfect ratio for the 3spd auto, on and off the roads.

I have a 32's and 3.07's and they kinda suck. They're fine once ur going but pulling off requires some rpm and clutch slippage....so getting stuck in bad traffic is terrible.

Really wanna go to 4.10's. Im also in the unique situation of having d30 front and d44 rear with 3.07's.

Oh 6speed manual BTW.

How dod you get in this unique situation? I didn't think and D44's came with 3.07's.

I'm guessing it has something to do with his rather unique location. IDK about south africa, but I remember reading something along the lines of all european TJs getting D44's, maybe its something similar for him

I went from 3.07 w/ 33" tires to 4.10 w/ 35" tires. There's a definite improvement. Today I actually passed someone.. going uphill.

I would swap axles for a 4cyl much, cheaper than a regear, if you really want to regear I would at least do 4.56.
