3.07 gear w/ 33's - auto trans
I did a search and read many posts but I think it just made me even more confused. Hopefully you guys can help me and give me some advice on my exact situation. I am planning on moving from a stock 2002 wrangler sport 6cyl automatic trans to this setup. I am also assuming I have 3.07.....
2.25" BB + 1" BL + soft 8's 15x8 and duratrac 33x12.50x15 that being said, I know absolutely nothing about gears other then what I have read for the last 2 hours. Will I need to regear or change things out? Is it strictly a personal preference thing or can I cause damage to my Jeep? My Jeep lives a life of driving to bike trails, hiking trails, geocaching, dirt/mud trails out at a cottage in Michigan and Wisconsin. It spends time on highways to get to those places. I am a light driver, usually dont go any faster then 70 MPH. I want to get more into wheelin. go easy on me....and speak slowly....thanks guys!

33" tires and 3.07's won't hurt anything, but you will have a severe drop in performance. You will prolly want 4.56's.

If you have the 3 speed auto, 4.10 will bring you back to a stock power band level with the 33s. This would be optimal for a DD.

so in order to get back to 4.10, you either regear or swap out the dana 35 for a dana 44? speaking extremely simple of course, I am sure there is more to it but am I at least in the correct ballpark?

Your other option is a d30/d35 combo out of a 4 banger tj - they came with 4.10s |

3.07's with 33's is definately doable. this is my rig when i first got it lifted. 3" springs,3.07's,3 speed auto, open 30/35, 33x12.5's on 15x8's. u do feel the power loss on the big stuff but you can still do it without much trouble as long as you're controlled in your driving. i have a 44,lockers & 4.56's now & the difference is huge

Mine was a dog on the 33s with 3.07. You get used to it, but it's poor acceleration and hard to climb hills in D.
I like it a lot better with 4.10s and 33s. With an auto, arguably you also put more strain on the trans if you don't regear. 410s are about right with the 33s, 4.56 if you think you might ever go to 35s and can put up with 3000 rpm at 65. Otherwise I run about 2750 rpm with my 4.10s on 33s.

so when you regear, you need to regear the front and back to say 4.10? From what I have read this can cost in the $1000 - $1500 range?
Also, when you guys say you are geared up to 4.56, can you do this with the dana 30 front and dana 35 rear or does this require swapping them out for something else, say a 44? once again, thanks for answering all my questions, these forums are great and have enjoyed learning. |

regear..or if you can do some work yourself do what I did.
Find some stock axles from a 4cyl TJ and swap them out. They come stock with 4.10 gears EDIT: Also, if you find a D44 with 4.10 gears then I would go out and look for a stock d30 from the 4cyl and call it a done deal. I went 4.10 with 33s/4.0/3spd auto in my 02...good combo for all around on and off road use. If you use it mainly on the highway, 3.73 would probably be a tad better for you

I am running 3.07's and 32's I don't notice it too bad. My only complaint is having to ride the brakes all the time at idle. It tends to roll along a bit fast.

As every one else has said if you want 4.10s and this will be just about right, swap the axles in from a 4cyl, it will be far cheaper about $500 for both at most. And you can do it your garage, with limited tools, and knowledge. If you have a D44 now then get the front from a 4 cyl and regear the rear. The easiest way to tell a D35 and a D44 apart, is the D35 has a rubber fill plug and the D44 has metal one.
