2nd Gear Grinding??

After installing both my BDS 2" Lift and JKS 1.25" BL, it has been very hard to get into the gears on the bottom of the shifter like 2nd and 4th gears. This is especially a problem in the morning when the jeep is cold. Although it is a little easier to get into 2nd once warmed up, it still grinds no matter what when shifting into 2nd.

Has anyone else ran into this or no what the problem is? Thanks again for all your help.

Check the clearance between the shifter and your tub. My shifter had a foam tube around the shaft that was easy to remove....clerance issue solved.

Get down there and look at it....it should be pretty clear when you try shifting it and see what is hitting.

Your 99 has a rubber shift boot. Take it off and dirive around with it like that. If it improves, then you know it was the rubber binding. If that's the case, you will not have to trim the tub. I swapped out the rubber boot with a leather one that I found at Advance Auto. Fixed the issue.

pull up the center console so you can pull the shifter boot up out of the way. you will see it. you can remove it and run it or you can trim it for 2nd and reverse and put it back.

That cured my shifting problem too, and it's simple and fast to do.

My '05 had a metal ring around the bottom of the leather boot that had to be cut down. I also heated & bent the shifter cane a bit. It still touches if I row the gears too hard, but not enough to cause a problem.
