How long was it on backorder, and what what is the price up to now?

Did the fogmod two days ago. I pulled the cover off of the OPDA today and found a little grease/oil around the target wheel. I think thats a good thing. Tells me that it should help prolong the life of it.

Only time will tell if the mod to the thrust washer will help the lower.

removed my opda today . the gear has wear , the shaft has a slight wear at the bottom bushing area upper part of shaft looks great and both bushings look really good. going to do the fog mod.has any one tryed usising electric motor grease. or has anyone tryed removeing the seal from under the upper bushing a run it that way too see if oil can make it to the top bushing. jeep has 40,000 miles on it.

When I did my fogmod, I noticed the seal that blocks off the upper bushing isn't a regular o-ring, but has ridges and is sort of twisted, when the shaft is spinning on it, it looks to me like it would have small gaps to allow oil to pass - sort of being an oil control ring and not so much of a seal... leaving the very upper o-ring to act as the seal. Yet when removed, the upper portion of shaft was dry.

Too bad I didn't take apart my orginal before chucking it. That shaft binded so much it was hard to turn by hand.

There is no upper seal. The plastic washer under the target wheels is just a spacer. There are grooves in the lower seal, but there is no way oil is getting past it.

I replaced mine way back when with a factory replacement. I still have my old one that is the original laughing monkey! You think I could do the fog mod to it and save it as a backup?

Just received a call from you dealer that my OPDA has arrived. Will have it installed later this week. Still wonder why Chrysler didn't notify me but I'm happy it's in.

I was just called also to let me know my new OPDA has arrived at the dealer. I ordered it in February. The cost is $377.

For those of you who have done the FogMOD, have you used any grease besides the Aeroshell? If so do you have any comments on the outcome?

The bushings and shaft probably have damage. I would recommend it be used as an EMERGENCY backup only. I would pull it apart and clean it really good and look for wear on the bushings. I guess it's possible for sludge deposits to cause the binding.

Yeah, its bound up pretty good. I may try it anyway just in case my current "new" one starts laughing at me too.

It will probably work for a while. Change the gear too. I managed to salvage the used OPDA ChaseB bought online and that was trashed.

Also, it's nice to see the release of a new batch of OPDA's. It is however very unfortunate that the cost has almost tripled for the same defective product.
