I did mine yesterday. Looks like I'm late to letting everyone know. Here are some pics from the job...

Arrrrgggghhhh!

Looks like I'll be on my 4th opda soon.

Cold whether seems to do it.

My last one I went to the stealership for... they pulled it said it was fine and no need to replace... I did anyway and kept it to mod. (Never did)

When I took it home I threw it in the freezer for an hour or two and when I took it out it. Had a noticeable spot were it required alit of effort to twist by hand.

Anyone else notice the real cold weather causing the opdg to drag a bit where it might not in warmer weather?

And this time I'll be going with the dorman...

Thank you so much for all the input on this issue. I have an 06 with 89,000 on it and am planning on doing mine soon?

The way everyone has described this, I feel confident that I can do this!

I just ordered one from Rockauto to do for preventative maintenance. When I pull it out to check it, it would seem paying for and installing an $85 part is worth that time, whether it needs it or not. I'm shocked to see prices for the Dorman part range from about $82 to near $300 across the interweb

I just bought my 05 last month and it only has about 43,000 miles on it with me being the 4th owner, so maintenance history is unclear. I figured this would be good to do.

Just started reading this thread over again. Super excited that the Dorman part is available. I am getting ready to purchase it. I couldn't remember if there was a part # for the gasket underneath. Does anyone remember that?

I've danced this dance for a while. Somewhere towards the front of this thread, you'll find some of my posts. I did a Fogmod on a new unit, and kept it greased with aeroshell 33MS. Used Mobil 1. 0W-40 ( due to the high Zinc ) with 1/2 bottle of ZDDP along with a Donaldson P550299 filter. This one is in the photo after 34,000 miles of use
I did a stripperguy kit, but never installed it.
I just installed a Dorman, with the original Jeep sensor. The new sensor supplied with the Dorman was all scratched on the end, right out of the box.
Got tired of pulling the ODPA every 4k miles, especially now I have no garage or carport. When it was 4F last week, I heard a slight squawk. Knew it was time for grease or the Dorman.
The photos show very little wear, much less than the original at 21K miles. Look closely, there is faint wear on the gear, but I do not think very bad for 34k on this unit
