There are plenty that it hasn't happened to yet. Doesn't mean it isn't going to happen though. All we really know is that it happens to some a lot faster than others. 99K and counting here on a 06. If a proper solution ever comes along though I'll be in line with everybody else for it.

it's inevitable.

grease that was initially on the top bearing eventually dries up leaving a carbon remnant causing it to squeal then seize. it's impossible for the grease thats in the reservoir to get to the spindle as the fool who designed the opda forgot to include an interconnecting gallery

do yourself a favour. fogmod it

I would wait until warranty expires. If you mod it before and it goes bad chances are that you will void the warranty.

Well, on our 06s we got a 3/36 so wouldn't worry about that anymore. 05s did a bit better but I believe even they are beyond warranty now also.

Mine is still under 7/70 for at least another year. I have a Chrysler warranty on top of that. That is why I'm leery of doing the FodMod.

Maybe you could keep a new one handy for a spare until the warranty is out.

I currently am running my original. I'll check it again for wear this week. I have a new unmodified one in case I need it.

if you do nothing, one morning when you start up it will squeal without warning and maybe bind up even if you regularly check it for wear. ask me how I know. lucky for me as soon as I heard mine squealing I shut it down and didnt restart until I fogmodded it and no damage to the gear was done

if you are going to pull it out to check for wear, at least dismantle it and polish off the built up crap on the spindle and oil it up. that should buy some time until you fogmod it

so the upper area of the OPDA, when it comes from the manufacturer, does it have any lubrication at all?

the hole where the FogMod is placed, that is a manufacturer lub point...

any idea? maybe someone with a new unit can answer?

Well, I just ordered a new OPDA from Mopar Parts Online so that means that there should be a new version released by DC any day now for half the price.
With the 1700 mile vacation coming up the end of this month I can't chance being stranded in the middle of nowhere because of a $140 (with shipping) part. My current OPDA has only squealed twice on really cold mornings but my gear is worn. I'm not sure how the new gear will take to the cam but it will be a better set up than what I have. I'm not sure if I will FogMod it or not. I need to look at the directions and see how complicated it actually is.

Some have reported having some lube while others have found theirs dry. You need to check all new ones. There is never a better time than when it is already out. Be sure to mark the gear & put it back on the same way. It isn’t reversible.

The FOGMod is explained on page 1. The supply hole through the bushing is from the factory opening. The zerk hole is tapped where it will be accessible for greasing when installed. Be sure to grease it when warm & the engine is running to maximize grease distribution.

Yes I'm aware of that Sir. I was referring to the OPDAs that were recently shipped in the last few months.

I apologize and moving forward will clarify my questions in detail...

They are exactly the same as the old ones, and are made by the same company.
