2003 TJ, What's new?

I am going to replace my 2000 Sahara with a 2003 Sport or Sahara. I have read a little on the Rubicon, but was more interested in what some of the changes for the 2003 model year might be for the TJ's. Any iformation on changes, colors, options, or other information that anyone has would be great.

The 2003 Jeep Rubicon will come with front and rear D44's. Front and rear disc breaks. Front and rear air lockers. Diamond coated rocker panels, and 31in Goodyear MT/R's. It will also come will 4 to 1 transfer case. If I had the money I would go with the Jeep Rubicon.

'97 TJ. 2in Teraflex with disco's. 32in BFG ATs. Two 10" subs and a 500 watt amp.

here's another writeup on the Rubicon, heavily based on rumor. Even has a pic (of WHAT, i'm not exactly sure. could be a TJ with a Rubicon decal?)

http://www.car-truck.com/chryed/buzz/b010902.htm

sure hope they control distribution of those Rubicon decals (so the few decal-crazed TJ drivers that are out there don't plaster their used TJs with innaccurate decals - which i would then have to remove from my next used TJ......)

I saw an 03 Rubicon prototype this past weekend at the Annapolis Valley Jeep Jamboree here in Nova Scotia. It was a very impressive vehicle: ARB lockers, 4-1 Atlas t-case, 4 wheel discs, 16" wheels with Goodyear MTRs, D44s and 4.11s. Definitely a head-turner and the focus of many discussions. It is supposed to retail about 35k CDN which makes me more than a little angry that I just bought an 02 Sahara. Live and learn.

to keithTJ, having just bought a 2002, you can still play a transition well. enjoy the 2002 while still under warranty and low miles, kick it out to someone like me in a year at market price (which you might have planned to do anyway). by then, the Rubicon will be in its second year of manufacture, with all the implied perks.......

thanks for the ruby writeup. sounds killer.

As well as the Rubicon's, Sport's and Sahara's equipped with the d44 rear w/tracloc will have the option of rear disc brakes. That along with an available 4spd auto are the most significant changes to the normal lineup. I couldn't find any pricing yet, but here's the standard equipment on the Ruby's....

~Trueloc differentials
~4:1 Rocktrak 4WD system
~front and rear d44 axles with disc brakes
~4.11 gearing
~245/75R16 MT/r's on 16x8 wheels

That's what I've come up with . See, every now and then I post something useful .

Mr. Bill:

Re my post above. I should have stated that the 03 Rubicon prototype I saw was equipped with D44s locked with ARBs and (I think I am correct in this) an Atlas transfer case. My apologies for the misrepresentation.

that's what I plan on doing, I'm just gonna take my '02 Sport, get the Rubicon's seats and rear brakes, maybe the fronts depending on what size they are.

I was planning on doing the Grand rear brake conversion, but if this'll allow the use of more of the factory parts....hmmm . Bob, the brake sizing shouldn't be a problem as people have said 15's will fit. They chose the 16" tire/wheel combo more or less for width and backspacing issues.

I actually didn't even think of size as a problem, I figured I could always grind a little caliper away

did they increase the size of the discs in the front? No point converting if they're the same size.

I'd imagine they're the same size. Should still be using the same old D30 . They only had them listed as front/rear disc's, no size specified.
