2" BB install tomorrow! Any tips?
I finally got my 2" Daystar lift in the mail today so it's going on tomorrow. I know tons of you have done this so any hints or tips would be greatly appreciated!
One last request: anyone have pics of a TJ with the stock 30" tire package after a 2"BB? Are my tires going to look really weenie or what??? Thanks! ![]()

Tip: Go spray the shock and track bar bolts right now with PB Blaster. Unless your jeep is really new the bolts are always rusted. 30s with a BB look good in my opinion, it finally gives you some flex space. Here's a pic from when I had 30s and a BB http://userweb.suscom.net/~penguinland/rcaug7th/rcaug7th-Pages/Image4.html

Good advice. The Jeep looks amazing good underneath, I guess the mud kept the rust at bay!
Still, I WD40'd all of the nuts and bolts that are coming apart tomorrow so hopefully it'll go well. I'm suspecting that it'll go quicker than the 3" BDS lift that I put on my old XJ! ![]() |

WD40's OK...but you need a can of PB Blaster around at all times...
just wanted to make sure you saw my earlier post, as it appears we posted at almost the same time... Greg

I just did mine this past weekend...although I did the RE BB....the problems I ran into were....1)shock boot covers didnt come with the kit, had to make a mad dash to the 4x4 store...2)the DT3K shocks are painted over the threads for the front shocks...and the factory bolt is a titch bit off so be careful, dont strip it out like I did lol (RE is sending me a new shock btw) other than that things went smooth...for removing the front passenger shockj ust remove your air box and you can gain access to the hole to drop down a socket wrench to get r done...without the run to the 4x4 store, Id say th elift took in all about 4 hours or so...enjoy!!

Don't worry about the shock boots, they just help hold in water and allow the tops of the shocks to rust out. I have removed my shocks a few times and have never gone under the hood to do so. It helps if you have a set of GearWrench rachets. After you buy a can of PB you will quickly see what everyone is talking about. Last week NAPA had it on sale for $2.99, if you have one close by. Post the pics when you get the lift installed

I vote for no boots as well...
if you don't plan on reusing or selling your stock shocks, the easiest (and absolutely the fastest) way to remove them is to take the lower two bolts out, then pull the bottom half towards you until the top end just snaps... Greg

I had real problem getting the front shocks off because of the rust. The bolts on the bottom came out easily, but I got sick of messing with the tops and torched them off. Just something to look out for.

Well I'm done! I started just before noon and finished cleaning up at ten to three. Not too bad seeing that I did it alone!
As requested, here are the before and after pics: Before: ![]() After: ![]() So, what do you think? Here's what I think: I need bigger tires! ![]() |

My BFG AT's have served me very well on the trail and are great for everyday driving. If you spend a lot of time behind the wheel of your TJ I'd definitley go with them:
