dude why not spend like a grand and get a cheap honda then while you drive that go to a junk yard and source a newer engine whether its a v8 v6 or the straight 6 there are tons of great motors out there for cheap

another great way to get all the parts you would need is to buy the truck or suv that the motor swap you want is in its a whole lot cheaper to buy a car than all the parts to build that car just look at the older cherokees there like 1500 bux and you get a whole bunch of parts that can fit your wrangler

First, sorry to hear about your constant problems.

Second, really lllloooonnnggg post. I honestly just skimmed parts of it to get the gist.

Third, 12-14 mpg is really poor. My 6 gets 17.

Options: at this point, I'd bite the bullet and take it to the dealership. Yes, they do overcharge, however they have a higher chance to tell you what is really wrong.

Another option is to replace the 4 with a used 6. My friend and I picked up a used 4.0 from the junk yard for $100.00 after he went into too deep of water. Woops.

Anyways, hope this is of some help.

First thing go buy a Haynes repair manual and start testing different components on your own. Swapping motors is a poor option if you ask me. I drive my 4cyl 50 miles to and from work everyday. It gets 18-20 mpg has no problems driving insterstate speeds.

Onto your clogged converter. Either excessive unburnt fuel is entering the exhaust or oil is entering the exhaust. The unburt fuel could be a number of easy cheap components need replacing. If it is oil entering the exhaust you have some major engine issues. Let's focus on the cheap easy fixes. Unburnt fuel is caused by air/fuel mixtures too rich or lack of spark. I would use that repair manual to check the airfilter, spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor, oxygen sensor, MAP sensor, timing. All of those could cause your problems: poor fuel economy, power, and eventually clogged your cat.

I get 14mpg with my 4cyl and 31" tires so your mileage isn't that bad with 33's and no regear. Your posts are way too long...please give us the cliff notes...I skimmed but honestly don't know what your asking.
