2.5 liter speed ?. Cruise speed 33'12.5"

What Speed should I be able to cruise comfortably at. Tires are BFG Mudterrain,33x12.5. Gears are 4.53's. Miles on rig is 73k. Hardtop. Mine doesn't want to go much over 65 mph. I am wondering if my Cat is clogged. Thanks guys. Joe

i got 32 x 11.5 tires on my 2.5 litter and 65mph is my top speed. I mean, ive gotten almost to 80 before. I can consistenly get up to 60- 65mph on the highway. 55 mph with alot of wind nad pushing the gas. On a long trip i'll eventually pick up to 70-75. Its the dam wind that gives slows me down. If im behind another car thats breaking the wind, i can stay on his *** at like 60-65 mph. But if my Jeep is the one breaking the wind, ill slow to like 50-55 and every car behind me will eventaully pass.

I have a 4banger with 4.56 gears and 32's cooper stt. I can travel between 70 - 80 and very often 85-90. My 265/75/16 tires are between 32's and 33's but the are only 10.5 wide and I think that helps a lot.

EDIT: I have the 5gears manual, i think that helps a bit.

intresting that you can get over 80mph on tires that are 10.5 rather than 11.5. I have never gotten over 80 mph in my 4banger. im sure the hard -top helps.

I think the hard top helps. my lift is only 2" and that helps too. but before the new gears my max speeed was 80-85. Now I can go easily 85-90 (and I took the measurements from my gps)

have anything that sounds like and exhaust leak? That seems to sap the power on my 2.5 everytime it happens. Done a tune up? replace your plugs with good quality chamions (no platinum's they make it worse).

on 33 12:50 trxus with 5:13 gears, can hit 70-85 without issues.I'am also running a cam and a 4.0 tb.Prior to these mods i was running same tires with 4:88 gears and an all stock engine.I still was able to cruise at 70 most of the time except on some of the stepper hills around here.Even then i'd still hold 65.If you're geared right and the engine is in good tune you should'nt have a problem holding highway speeds if you are driving it right.By that i mean having it in the right gear.Crusing At highway speeds you should be in the 2750 to 3500 rpm range, below that and your lugging it something a 4banger is not good at.

Can you tell me more about this?

I have an 03 tj se with the 2.4L. I hear a hissing sound btwn 2500 and 3100 RPM in third and sometimes second gear. Haven't noticed it in first, fourth or fifth. It doesn't seem to lack power in that range, but I definitely noticed the sound.

What should I look for? I haven't really examined the manifold. I suppose that is a good place to start....

2.5L/4.88/33x12.5" MT's/Manual transmission

I can get to 80, but it doesn't like it too much. 70-75 is about the most it will do. Top on REALLY helps on the highway vs no top or doors.

Keep moving forward. But keep an eye on history, for if you don't, you are doomed to repeat it.
