05 Wrangler "X" Stock Wheels - How big of a tire can I install?

Hello,

New to Jeeps, so please bear with me....

It has the stock wheels and tires on it. I don't mind the look of the stock wheels, but would like larger tires. I'm also tire dumb, so I need to know:

a) Can I put taller / wider tires on the stock rims
b) If I can, what sizes can I put on and what would the tire specs be ex. 225/75/r15 etc...

Thank you very much!

Shane

Are they the steel ones or the alum ones? I really don't know for sure. One of the first places you will experience trouble will be the fronts rubbing the control arms at full lock. A 30x9.50 should not be a problem at all and really a 31x10.50 shouldn't either. If it is measured in metric something like 255/75r15 or a 265/70r15 would be ok. Some that are bigger is possible but there may be times you might rub in one place or another. What size were you thinking? I wouldn't recommend going wider than a 10.50 with those stock wheels. You would need spacers, new wheels or some grinding of the spring perches to run a 11.50 wide tire.

Lift and wheel spacers and 35x12.50's and stock wheels. With no lift or wheel spacers,31x10.50's.Add 1.5" lift spacers(BB) up front and you can run 32's.
