05 4 cyl sputter

I am the second owner of a 05 wrangler se 2.4 6 speed, and I've only owned or a few days but about once a day when you're driving down the road it starts to hesitate and lose power, I can floor it and nothing happens, but after a second or two the power comes back in and cuts back out, it'll do this a couple times before it finally straightens up and runs right. The engine light isn't on. My guess is that it needs a fuel filter, but I wanna know what y'all thing because I'm brand new to jeeps. Thanks!
