wow, that's a lot of rain. Looked like an awesome trip though. that's some serious mud too. With no dry spots, even the easiest of runs can turn nasty real quick.

This weekend we went up to the ACE 2008 event in Grande Cache. ACE stands for Alberta Conference on the Environment. The idea is to get as many rigs there as possible from all the big clubs in Alberta and represent the wheeling community responsibly, pick up garbage, and that kind of thing in an effort to get more trails opened up.
ANYWAYS... the cool part is that I wanted to go bad and so did my friend Holly but neither of us had our Jeeps quite ready. The trip required a winch to participate which she didn't have yet. And my 31" TSLs are just toast and I haven't got new tires yet. So we swapped her 35" BFG MTs on for the weekend. It was the first time I've wheeled my Jeep with a decent size tire on it. I told her that it was possible that a couple lug nuts would seize on and I wouldn't be able to give the tires back after the trip. ![]() Here are a couple pics. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

At the start of the day we went up the back side of Grande Mountain which was basically a poor road. It had some washouts on it and such and the Jeep was a little high up and tippy feeling to me. I wasn't very confident with it. When we got to the top of the mountain we did some sight seeing and then selected a really steep route down. I ended up leading and I didn't have a lot of confidence in my gearing (3.73 still) and my braking power with the 35s so I was a little nervous. We quickly got into some pretty crazy descents and by the time we got to the bottom I was feeling a lot more comfortable with the Jeep.
We had some lunch and then decided to try going back up it. I was a little nervous about that too but it ended up being awesome and by the end of the day I was just flying over stuff I was nervous to go on at all at first. By the end of the trip I was thinking 37s again. ![]()

Are you really running at 5.5 lift with 31's? Those look like 33's.

I love the snorkel. There was one trip in particular where we were trying to get 5 kms or so down river to the nearest road and to do so we had to cross back and forth across the river about 10 times. A few of those crossings were really deep and I was super glad I had the snorkel. One of the other Jeeps ended up spiraling down the river and taking water into the motor. Not something I want to do. The peace of mind is great. You do have to be careful in tight trees though to make sure you don't catch it on something but if you turn it backwards for that kind of terrain and keep it in mind you're fine. I'm so used to the fact that it's there now that I don't think it'll ever be a problem. That1guy: Yep.. 31s still unfortunately. I'll be getting some tires ASAP but I have a trip to Hawaii in a few weeks I'm saving my money for too.

Yes. I've done a few snorkel installs so I planned for this. The vertical part of the snorkel can actually be placed so that it's 1/2" further forward than it would be if you left it flush with the windshield frame. Then you cut the threaded portion and about 1/4" above that of the door pins off to shorten them. I can remove and install my passenger side door without worrying about the snorkel at all. The other benefit to mounting it that way is you can turn the top "snout" right around which is better for going through tight treed areas.
