02 fog light wiring question

Does anyone know what wire in a 02 TJ trips the relay for the factory fog lights? The pull-out switch on the end of the headlight switch will no longer work so I want to hook up an after market switch for the lights. The problem is I dont know what wire coming out of the steering column controls the fog lights.

Thanks

On the Hella 500's I just installed on my TJ the relay is wired with one wire to power, one to ground and the third to the high beam power. When I turn on my high beams the fogs turn off. you could probably hook to the high beam wire off of the turn signal switch high beam wire.

I'm not wanting to do a complete rewire of the lights I am only wanting info on what wire coming out of the switch controls the fog-lights. I would just install a new switch but I have checked dealerships, parts stores and online and cant find a switch for a 2002 tj with fog-lamps in stock. Everyone is telling me 60 - 90 days back order on the switch.

So if I can find the wire coming out of the old switch that controls the lights I will hook it to another switch untill I can track down a new factory style switch

If anyone knows of a place that would have a Headlight switch for a 2002 TJ with foglights in stock let me know.

Just had a look at rockauto they say up to 42 days...

So, wire from headlamp switch you want is red/orange to feed the fog lamp relay coil. The pink/light green wire going into switch is the one that normally supplies the power to the fog lamp relay. If you tap both of them and put a switch between them your fog lights will come on with the switch.

One thing to note when the fog lamp stops working properly, is that some times they can come on without the ignition and could leave you with a flat battery. To stop that happening you can remove the foglamp relay, but if you wanted the fog lamps working you might have to snip the red/orange wire to prevent them coming on at random, but still come on via the switch you want to add. When you do get a new switch you'd have to rejoin the red/orange wire to resume normal function.

jeep4x4center.com is showing on there website that they have the switches in stock. I am going to call in a bit and if so I can get one from them before I go cutting up the wires.

Is this what you are looking for? I did the same thing after my fog lights would mysterously turn themselves on in my 02 Sahara. Cut the White wire with the orn tracer and rerun to your new switch. If you just splice into it chances are the original switch will still mess with you.

Better to cut the red/orange wire which is the one that feeds the relay coil. If you use the white/orange you need to make sure you use a switch that is rated for the current the fog lamps will draw.
